Throwng Leinhart Into the Falcon’s Den is a Mistake!

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

Why should we be surprised that it’s ‘Week 4′ in the NFL and already there are quarterback issues throughout the league? The Arizona Cardinals are running out of excuses and in an attempt to right the ship they have decided to bench veteran Kurt Warner and replace him with hotshot USC QB Matt Leinart. The 35-year-old quarterback was intercepted three times: Once, with the team at the Rams 1-yard line and another at the St. Louis 14. To cap it off, Warner fumbled a snap at the Rams 18 with 1:46 to play as Arizona was positioning itself for a winning field goal. ESPN.com reported on Monday night that the Cardinals were expected to start Leinart against the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday, citing team sources the Web site did not identify. Warner’s turnovers are what changed Green’s mind about starting his first-round draft pick, according to the report. Now that the Cardinals have a spanking new stadium in Glendale, coach Denny Green is feeling the heat and is looking at an untested rookie who was late arriving to camp. Leinart did have a splendid preseason, but that was against passive defenses. This Sunday he heads to Atlanta, Georgia to face a disgusted Atlanta team, who was raped and pillaged in front of the entire nation on Monday night in New Orleans. Coach Jim Mora Jr. spent many years in New Orleans as his dad is the most successful coach in the history of the Saints. Running back Warrick Dunn is a native of Louisiana and is beside himself after he and his teammates allowed Saints’ defenders to tee off on Michael Vick. Back to Warner who finds himself in this precarious position for the third time in his career. After leading St. Louis to two Super Bowls in three seasons, he lost his job to Marc Bulger, and then signed with the New York Giants in 2004. He was the Giants’ starter for nine games, but was benched in favor of rookie Eli Manning. Leinart is without doubt Arizona’s franchise quarterback of the future after the team took him with the No. 10 pick overall in April. The plan this season was for Leinart to watch and learn from the sidelines, but Green is an impatient coach who has not hesitated to switch quarterbacks in his uphill fight to bring a winner to Arizona. Green praised Leinart’s poise and performance in the preseason. With a 12-23 record in two-plus seasons with the Cardinals, Green admits he has wondered at times whether he can turn around the long-suffering franchise. I’m not convinced that Leinart is going to make it in the NFL, but regardless, why not let Warner play on the road in the raucous Georgia Dome and then start Leinart at home against Kansas City.Trying to be heard on the road in a dome is next to impossible and at 1-2 this is no time to hit the panic button. Atlanta has opened as a -7 favorite at the sportsbooks and if Leinart starts, I will be sports betting with both fists full of cabbage! Bob ActonSports Betting

Betting Besides the Bowl

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

Super Bowl XL is, of course, the talk of the town, but sports bettors have other events on which to wager leading up to the big day.

Basketball, college and pro, and golf are among the biggies, but the horses and buggies are in action — or soon will be — too.

Thoroughbred racing already has kicked off its run to the Triple Crown, but the 3-year-old campaign will share the spotlight this weekend with a fairly new offering called the Sunshine Millions, a $3.6 million eight-race card that’s designed for Florida and California-breds and alternates events between Gulfstream and Santa Anita Parks.

Run for the Roses devotees will have the opportunity to wager on the first of three Kentucky Derby pools, being offered earlier than usual this year.

Two others will coincide with big races in March and April.

The key for those who participate in Derby pools is to pick the right one on which to wager, as odds fluctuate and horses move in and out of the picture.

Pools list odds, made by Churchill Downs handicapper Mike Battaglia, on 23 horses, plus a field bet that encompasses all other 3-year-olds.

Juvenile champion Stevie Wonderboy opened as the 8/1 choice, followed by Brother Derek, the horse that beat him in the San Rafael Stakes earlier this month, and First Samurai — son of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus — at 10/1.

Other odds and horses are:

15/1 — Dr. Decherd, Private Vow, Your Tent or Mine.

20/1 — Bluegrass Cat, AP Warrior, Bob and John, Henny Hughes, Lawyer Ron, Itsallaboutthechase, High Cotton, Barbaro, Halfhours, Cause to Believe.

30/1 — Barbican, Achilles of Troy, Point Determined, Sorcerers Stone, Flashy Bull, Blazing Rate, Keyed Entry.

The field is 4/1.

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Hilton has posted odds on 214 Derby potentials.

Many of the Thoroughbreds in the initial Derby pool have higher numbers than those available in the Churchill Downs pool.

Stevie Wonderboy is 12/1, for example, while First Samurai is 25/1 and Henny Hughes is 40/1.

Auto racing has become a big-time sport in the last half-dozen years or so, but NASCAR still has some major throwbacks to the 20th Century.

Love him or hate him driver Jeff Gordon won his first two Daytona 500s in the 1990s, added his third last year and is Las Vegas oddsmakers’ choice to hit victory lane again in 2006 at the 2 1/2-mile oval.

Sam’s Town, host for NASCAR’s annual Las Vegas stop, has Gordon listed at 4/1 while the Las Vegas Hilton has him at 9/2 along with Tony Stewart, the 2005 Nextel Cup Champion.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., scion of a prominent racing family, is 5/1 at both bet shops.

“Looking at his record from last year, I don’t see how,” mused Stratophere Race and Sports Director Robert Jaynes.

Sam’s Town has Stewart, who recently was involved in a minor mishap with his car, and Jimmie Johnson, the defending Las Vegas champion, at 7/1.

“Personally, I like Greg Biffle at 12/1,” said Jack Snyder, the assistant race and sports book manager at Sam’s Town.

Biffle, a multople winner in 2005, was 25/1 at the Hilton.

Snyder expects Daytona wagering to step up once Super Bowl crowds hit Vegas.

“We’ve had smaller wagers, but nothing big yet,” he said.

“My question is, “Whatever happened to Dale Jarrett?’ We have him out there at 40/1. I guess age really catches up to you.”

Jarrett is 30/1 at the Hilton, where racing numbers are made by NASCAR enthusiast/expert Ed Salmons.

The Hilton lists Gordon. Dtewart, Biffle, Johnson and Carl Edwards as 6/1 co-favorites to nab the 2006 Nextel Cup.

Hometown favorites Kurt and Kyle Busch of Las Vegas, are 15/1 and 25/1 respectively.

Rakebacks In Online Poker

Monday, April 17th, 2006

There are several reasons to chop and change online poker rooms habitually, such as taking advantage of the available free chip and deposit offers, but there is one really good reason to stay loyal to a poker room when you feel comfortable at one.

Before we look at that one particular reason, here is a brief look at five popular reasons why you should play at more than one regular poker room:

1. By using multiple online poker rooms you have access to a far greater number of tournaments or ring games at any time of the day.

2. There are more invitational tournament invites for “loyal players” which is often decided by the number of raked hands the player has accumulated over a certain time period so it make sense to show “loyalty” to several rooms.

3. Some poker rooms have looser players than others and this varies in each room throughout the day.

4. If a player feels they are being “easily read” and losing their chips they can move to another room with ease.

5. The ability to take advantage of freerolls across multiple online poker rooms as and when they appear.

These are all worthy reasons why you can chop and change your online poker rooms but the one reason that many players will choose to be very loyal to one particular room is the “rakeback”.

The rakeback may help poker rooms keep the big players in one room if they won’t try to cover its existence from the players who choose to hop from room to rooms. A “rake” is the house’s commission that all poker rooms take from played hands. The rake varies from 1% to 10% depending on pot size, as well as other factors.

The poker rooms keep 100% of the “rake” unless circumstances such as promotions and affiliate referrals apply. This is one reason you should always question a poker room with an affiliate log tacked onto the end of the web address. Did they promise you huge wins and loose players or did they simply refer you to the site?

You should keep in mind if you find a good strong rakeback programme, the chances are it may not pay you to play in a variety of rooms. You may find it is much more profitable to be loyal to one room in which case you can play and act accordingly.

This year’s NBA conference semifinals have seen three of the four series go seven games (Heat beat the Nets in five games), after none of the four conference semis went past six games last year. Actually, it’s pretty unusual for this many series to go this long, so early in the playoffs.

My free play is on the Chi Cubs over the Fla Marlins at 7:05 ET. Coming off a perfect 3-0 sweep this weekend with my exclusive Las Vegas Insider plays (Spurs/Tigers/Pistons), I’m looking to improve my Las Vegas Insider record in MLB this May to 6-1 with another winner tonight. I also have a 15* Rivalry Classic Play on the Yankees/Red Sox game. In the NBA playoffs, I’m featuring a LEGEND Play (4-1 in TY’s postseason!) on one of tonight’s two Game 7s. Don’t miss it!

In fact, it’s just the third time it’s happened since Bird and Magic rejuvenated the league by entering the NBA in the 1979-80 season. The last time was in 1994 and the other was in 1981. There have been nine years (since 1980) in which none of the semifinals series were forced to a seventh game with three years standing out. In 1998 all four series went only five games (it also happened in 2002) and in 1999 there were three four-game sweeps and one six-game series.

Also of note in this year’s postseason has been the number of close games. Through two rounds last year (65 games), just one game was decided by just one point, four others by two points and five more in overtime. Through 69 games this year, eight games have been decided by one point (three in OT), six more by two points and five others in overtime. That’s quite a difference.

However, there was nothing close about the first of this year’s three semifinal round Game 7s yesterday. The Pistons beat the Cavs on Sunday by holding them to 23 points in the second half, in a 79-61 win. Detroit may have looked very vulnerable in the middle of this series (lost Games 3, 4 and 5) but they opened it and closed it strong. They won Game 1 by 27 points and Game 7 by 18!

Detroit is now 10-2 when facing elimination since the ‘03 playoffs and the Pistons have gone 12-1 in games in which they’ve had a chance to eliminate their opponent. That lone loss came in last year’s Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Speaking of Game 7s, home teams have now gone 77-17 in NBA playoff history.

There are two more Game 7s on tonight’s schedule and will that home team dominance continue? Home teams have been struggling as of late in this year’s playoffs, especially against the spread. After opening 30-9 SU, home teams ended the first round on a 1-5 SU and ATS run and have gone 15-9 SU (11-13 ATS) in the second round. That’s a 30-game run of 16-14 SU and just 12-18 ATS!

However, in two Game 7s this year, the home teams have won and covered easily. The Suns crushed the Lakers in the first round 121-90 in their Game 7 and the Pistons won easily yesterday. Tonight’s first Game 7 (both televised on TNT) is the Mavs/Spurs at 8:00 ET with San Antonio favored by 3 1/2 points (192). The second game is the Clippers/Suns at 10:30 ET with Phoenix favored by four points (215 1/2).

The Spurs have rallied in this series to win Games 5 and 6 and will try to become just the ninth team in NBA playoff history to overcome a 3-1 deficit and win a seven-game series. The Suns were the eighth team to do it, when they came back to beat the Lakers in this year’s first round. Jason Terry is back for the Mavs after his one-game suspension in Game 6.

In the night’s second game, the Clippers are playing in the franchise’s first-ever Game 7, while the Suns are playing in their second Game 7 in as many series. Neither team has been able to win consecutive games in this series, with the Suns taking Games 1, 3 and 5 and the Clippers winning Games 2, 4 and 6. The teams haven’t played since Thursday and conventional wisdom says that will help the Suns more.

‘Over players’ had been on quite a run in the postseason, as nine of the last 10 first round games went over and then 15 of the first 21 did the same in the second round, for a 24-7 run. However, all three of the games this past weekend (two on Friday plus yesterday’s game), went under the total.

Followers of the “Zig-Zag” theory have been streaking through this year’s playoffs, both ‘hot’ and ‘cold.’ They opened 19-8-2 ATS in the first round but closed on an 0-8 slide. They again opened strong in the second round, going 10-4 but have since gone 1-5 (now 11-9 in the second round). If not for the LA Clippers and Phoenix Suns (who are a perfect 5-0 in their series), it’s just 6-9 ATS in the second round.

MLB notes

Interleague action is done for the month after a weekend of play that was highlighted by Barry Bonds getting his elusive 714th HR. The new week begins with the Cardinals owning MLB’s longest active winning streak at five straight games with the Devil Rays and Dodgers right behind them, having won four straight.

The Dodgers have won 12 of 15 and play in the only division in MLB (NL West) that doesn’t have a losing team. That’s interesting, as last year the Padres won that division with an 82-80 record. The Dodgers swept the Angels in a three-game series over the weekend and the team that played the White Sox in last year’s ALCS is now 17-27 on the year, having lost 17 of their last 22!

Losing has come easy to the Royals (10-31), who open the week with MLB’s longest active losing streak at nine straight (they are 2-20 on the road). The Marlins have lost seven straight games, ending a 10-game road trip 2-8. Florida (11-31) returns home tonight to host the Cubs but the bad news is the Marlins own MLB’s worst home record at 3-14.

The Marlins are the league’s biggest “moneyburners” at minus-$1628 (100/game), trailed by the Royals (minus-$1457), the 14-30 Pirates (minus-$1449) and the free-falling Angels (minus-$1227). The 29-14 Tigers are still MLB’s “best bet”, showing a profit of plus-$1539. The Rockies (25-19) are second-best at plus-$906 and it should be noted that these two teams are the biggest ‘under’ teams in MLB, going 14-26-3 and 15-26-3, respectively!

There are a “lucky 13″ games on tonight’s schedule, highlighted by the Yankees visiting Fenway Park to face the Red Sox at 7:05 ET on ESPN. It’s Wang versus Schilling, with the Red Sox favored at minus-$1.55 and a posted total of 9 1/2.

Ness Notes is available Monday through Friday by 1:00 ET.

A Casino bequeathed for my fun

A fornicate affair with sports betting

Uncle Jerome’s portrait on the wall coated with a light yellow shade reminded me of the ace eclectic talent that had faded with his life. He had told me a lot on the Casino and he took me to the edge of having a fornicate affair with the spirit of sports betting. Now the very yellow takes me through the corridors of the big walled, tightly secured doors of the Casino, this time however through the evanescent memory that I wish to convey before it gets lost. We stopped at sports betting and the time that was, when my Uncle loved to bet on the major event of boxing. The sports book was filled with entrants, new, old, veterans and men on the lighter side of the affair like me who wanted to get the feel of the fun.

Tipple yourself with a pint of life

The sounds that swept the corners fell still, the eyes that strained to grab the beat fell cold and then with a sweep as of the foam filled tide on the barnacle filled shore, my uncle grabbed me to a lift of the centaury. My heart fell out through the mouth, we won the bet. This is no romantic visionary that was forced to tell the tale for want of a few dollars; this is an omen that reminds you of the prospects that are in store for tippling yourself with an excess of a life in the casino. A in poker, a sports book and the crowd that could vanish the very macabre life that you have been trotting on as of now; that was what my uncle had to show me and that’s exactly what I have in store for you.

On the footsteps of Jerome

Sports betting are now high on the list; what the game of poker hid behind the set of cards that could spread out the pot in front of you, sports book deals with a better thrill. It’s the screens that you have to be steady to look out for; it’s the passion that you have to gape at and it’s the game of chances you are in the casino for. A game theorist could move the strategies, and you could be the layman who dances in the glade; and a glade it is the Casino and the color that the bet has to offer. So the legality of sports betting being held high on the agenda, something forced to separate it from gambling and that was where my old blood mate Jerome showed me the way to trace the events that could bring out my best.

The Female of the Species is More Deadlier than the Male: Women’s hold on Internet Poker

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Never underestimate the power of the pink pound; no not the spending power of our gay community but the women whose ever increasing disposable income is now becoming a seriously lucrative courtship with many online gambling sites.

With greater autonomy in their personal lives and fewer women being tied down with the responsibility of marriage and children, their spending power has escalated at a rate that not only keeps those shop ‘tills’ ringing but has also given women the freedom to spend as they wish. With online gambling now a mainstream activity, the trend has also seen more women taking the lead in online poker playing. We only need to see the rising number of gambling sites catering exclusively to women to know that this is the market to be in.

Until very recently, the online poker boom was thought to be a male dominated arena with less than 10% of players at a typical casino poker game being women. But online gambling industry experts have recently set out to investigate internet poker trends that have led to the widespread increase of online poker websites. Two studies conducted in the US brought out interesting and unexpected revelations in terms of demographics and the overall popularity and appeal of online poker.

Surprisingly, the studies, one conducted by PC Data “Spotlight on Games”, show that over one third of online poker players are female with women being the fastest growing segment of the online poker playing public. The studies also revealed that an overwhelming majority of female poker players prefer to play at online poker sites. In fact, only 1 of every 6 women preferred online poker to regular poker!

As betting matures online, a large part of it will take place around casual games which just happen to be popular with women players. In fact, despite the assumed male dominance of online gambling, women do make up a significant share. Current figures show that this is approaching around 47% of all internet users being female.

Online gambling providers therefore need to take serious note of women players if they are to maximise the overall package and in turn increase the value and loyalty of these players. It would seem that although men are currently ahead of their female counterparts in online gambling, women gamers are rapidly creeping up the stakes to become one of the most powerful demographics to woo and within a few years, they will become the smartest group to bet on.

Best Strategy For Online Slots

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Slots are games of chance with symbols displayed on reels. The objective is to spin the reels so the symbols form a winning combination in the payline(s). The payout is dependant on the winning combination formed. There are two types of slot machines, straight slots and progressive slots. The straight slots have fixed payouts and generally offer more payouts that a progressive machine. The progressive slots offer a jackpot and a player needs to play the maximum number of coins to be able to win the jackpot. The reason the progressive slots pay less frequently than the straight slots is to build the jackpot. If you follow these simple tips you can increase your chances of winning.

Play at slot machines that offer higher return percentages or payouts. Usually the higher the denomination played, the higher the payout. For example, a 25¢ slot machine will have a higher payout than a 5¢ machine

Play at slot machines for short periods of time. The longer you play, the greater the chance of winning for the house

Decide in advance how much your bankroll is for a session and stand by your decision

Don’t forget that the credit amount showing on the slot machines is real money

Look for and play at casinos that offer the highest payouts. 7 Sultans Casino has a high average slot payout of 96.75%

Slot History

The slot machine was first built by Charles Fey in 1898. Originally from Germany, the mechanic moved to San Francisco where he built the 5¢ Liberty Bell slot machine. The slot machine was quickly outlawed and in 1902 was banned from the saloons in Nevada and California. To keep the slot machines around, the symbols on the slot reels were changed from pictures of playing cards to fruits (cherries, lemons) and gum package labels. These symbols are still in use today with the exception of the gum package label which has been replaced by the BAR symbol.

Types of Slot Machines

3 Reel Slots - are the classic slot machines which have 3 reels and a single payline horizontally across the center

Multi-line Slots - can have more that 3 reels and have paylines horizontally across the center, vertically down the middle and diagonally from corner to corner

Progressive Slots - are powered by a network of slots linked together to offer jackpots which are constantly accumulating - a player needs to play the maximum number of coins to be able to win the jackpot

Bonus Slots - are similar to classic slot machines but also offer extra prizes like free spins, cash prizes and bonus rounds - a player needs to play the maximum number of coins to be able to win the jackpot.

Playing Poker Online

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Poker has been known to be the most glamorous casino card game online and on land. Playing poker has been seen by many as being linked to the most astute of gamblers. Not everyone has the talent or the potential to play poker…bluffing needs a stone cold face and not everyone has the know how.

While land poker is full of nuances like being able to determine who gives away the most e.g. some players with a winning hand may start smiling, others may have some other habit that keeps clicking with them, thus online poker may at times be bereft of such creative ability to know the others game.

However, with the right choice of online casinos this capability can be brought to your desktop. You must have video technology and the poker game you are playing online will be visually stimulated so that you can see the other players while they make their moves.

Poker is a game of uncanny ability. It’s a game where players must determine the others weaknesses and guess at what the next play will be. The better they are at reading players the better their game will be.

Playing online poker is with the right online casino the same as playing on land. The technology available allows players to visually be with the other players and every move can easily be scrutinized sites like Titan Poker offer even more by dedicating themselves to the various games of Poker.

The connoisseur of Poker will enjoy such sites as they offer poker for all the senses and can allow you to enjoy much more that you, as a poker player, would ever have dreamed.

Online Slot Myths - Avoid These Common Errors and Win

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

Online slot myths are common and are made by both noivice and experienced players. If of course you can avoid these online slot myths and play with a coll head you can of course make money.

Lets look at these online slot myths why they cause players to lose money and how to avoid them.

The modern slot is a form of computer, and uses a progrm called The Random Number Generator (RNG).

Because most people don’t understand the RNG, and how online slot machines work, several myths exist that that players believe are true. They are not! Here are four of the most common slot myths that can lead you to lose.

1. You have been playing a machine for some time, and someone else just hit a jackpot on it. You “think” had I left playing the jackpot would be mine. Wrong!

As we said, the online slots are run by a computer, and its RNG is calculating numbers whether the machine is played or not, it never stops. If you press play, the RNG just selects a combination at that moment.

Even f you were still playing that slot machine, the RNG would never have arrived at the same combination of numbers as the person who won.

That is why it is called an RNG, and its only just “luck” (for lack of a better word) where a winning combination appears.

2. By counting the symbols on each wheel you can tell the odds of winning. Wrong!

As the RNG will generate a new series of numbers for each spin, these numbers will correspond to the symbols on the wheel. Even though you don’t see them, there can be hundreds of symbols and thus virtual stops on each reel.

The reason that online slot machines can offer such large payouts is only because they generate millions of combinations so the chances of hitting jackpots are low. For example, you notice 15 reels and then calculate the odds as being 15×15 x 15 1:3,375.

This is a mistake.

What you don’t see are the virtual stops, and there could be over 100! Therefore, at 100 per reel, it would be 100×100 x 100, or odds of 1:1,000,000. If you have ever wondered where the casinos can finance those large jackpots, you now know.

3. The Payout Percentages Are Controled by the Casino. Wrong!

The casino doesn’t have to do anything.

Online slot myths are common and are made by both noivice and experienced players. If of course you can avoid these online slot myths and play with a coll head you can of course make money.

Many slot myhts come from misunderstandings about how the Random Number Gnerator the RBG works so lets look at it in more dtails

Online slot machines payouts are determined by the RNG which has the pay back. percentage pre-dertermined.

These chips are hardwired programmed and can’t be changed. If a casino wanted to change the payback, they would have to replace this chip.

There are however rules and regulations set by the online gaming regulators to prevent this.

The casino doesn’t have to anyway, as the house edge is their profit.

Casinos know they will win. You should check the payback listing before you start playing. Play only those online slot machines with payouts of 95% or higher.

4. These Online Slot Machines Have Not Paid Out Lately - My turn is Next! Wrong!

The RNG insures that each and every spin on any online slot machine is totally random and unrelated to the previous spin o spins.

Also the length of time a slot is played without payout has no influence on next payout. It is a fact that any slot can go months or even years without paying its grand jackpot.

These machines can pay smaller payouts, but these serve only to keep up its payout ratios.

So, now you know the real story about online slots, and why the 4 online slot myths are so common.

The role of the RNG is also known, and therefore the role of ‘Lady Luck’ cannot be underestimated but you can put the odds in your favor by avoiding the online slot myths above and maybe win the elusive jackpot.
