Dazzling Three Card Poker Run

Friday, June 30th, 2006

There are days you have good cards. And there are days you have great cards. One day at The Mirage in Las Vegas, I had what can only be described as “dazzling cards.”

Our vacation in Vegas had just begun. It was March, 2003, and my wife, Diane, was still unpacking up in the room. Now, I know better than to rush into things, but I wanted to test the gambling waters downstairs in that sumptuous casino. Most gamblers (including me) don’t expect to have a fantastic run right out of the gate. They usually think in terms of conservative “money management”, where you try to stretch your bankroll over many successive days. Large bets and fast earnings are for later.

But that’s not what happened at the Three Card Poker table. I started off with a twenty dollar bet on the “Ante” spot, and a ten dollar bet on “Pair Plus,” figuring that I could lose the top bet and still break even if I beat the dealer. Wham! I got a flush, so I obviously played the hand with another twenty dollars on the “Play” spot. Luckily, the dealer managed to come up with King something. Total won: $80.00.

“Nice start.” I said to myself. I dearly hope this trip doesn’t help MGM-Mirage build another casino. “Let’s see what happens now.” I mused. I placed the exact same bet on the table, and the dealer gave me the same wonderful hand. Only this time the flush was in spades. Cha-Ching! Another $80.00.

You would have thought I won the Irish Sweepstakes by the smile on my face. I even tipped the dealer ten bucks as I recounted my little bonanza. And since I was alone at the table, the dealer was almost immediately ready again. I decided to double my bet, with twenty dollars on the Pair Plus bet and forty dollars on the Ante spot. “Dare we ask again?” I said to the dealer.

Wham! Another glorious flush came flowing through, again in spades. The dealer had a pair of Aces, so qualifying wasn’t a problem. The total won for this hand was $160. while the grand total was now $320.

A gambler never knows when a winning streak comes to an end, so I long ago developed a method to tell me when to quit. It’s called “Lose a hand… then leave.” I figure this simple little method has saved me lots of money over the years, so I employed it here at The Mirage. I pushed things for another five winners, upping the bet several times. And before I lost a hand, I received a set of three Queens. Cha-Ching! Cha-Ching! Cha-Ching!

This dazzling run in Three Card Poker made me over $2,800. while my wife was still unpacking.

Sports Betting

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

More and more people are getting involved with the challenge and excitement of sports betting. Many of them have found that the safest and most convenient way to do their sports betting is online by going to a top rated sportsbook. There they can find all of the information they need to bet intelligently and increase their chances of winning. This is because a good sportsbook has experts who will make recommendations based on their study of every aspect of teams, individual players, and upcoming events. It doesn’t matter whether you like to bet on team sports like football or soccer, or individual sports like golf or horse racing. A good sportsbook will provide you with information on any sport.

This is because the experts look at more than just the current betting odds and betting lines. Take soccer betting as an example. The sports betting experts will make recommendations based on their evaluation of how teams match up against each other and how the individual players on a team match up. They’ll take into consideration any injuries to players that may impact the outcome of a game and even look at how possible weather conditions will affect the play. With this information bettors can decide which teams to bet on and how much to bet. This will greatly increase the odds of successful sports betting.

If you like sports betting then find the right sportsbook for you. Your account will be secure and your privacy protected. You can also make your deposits in a variety of ways and your winnings will be paid promptly. Sign up today and place your bets.

Winning at Blackjack - Don’t Allow Yourself to Fall into This Trap

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

If you want to become a winning blackjack player, you need to understand the psychology of blackjack and its importance, which is very often under estimated.

Rational Disciplined Play Will Yield Profits Longer Term

A winning blackjack player using basic strategy and card counting can gain an edge over the casino and emerge a winner over time.

While this is an accepted fact and many players know this, they deviate from what is rational and make irrational plays.

Why would they do this? The answer lies in human nature and the psychology that comes into play when money is on the line.

Lets look at some examples of blackjack psychology in action and two common mistakes players make:

1. The Fear of Going Bust

The fear of busting (going over 21) is a common error among blackjack players.

Going bust means you are out of the game.

Many players find it hard to draw an additional card even though it is the right play to make.

Standing on 16 when you should take a hit stops a player going bust. However, thinking logically the dealer has to stand on 17 and above, so the perceived advantage of not going bust is offset by the fact that you cannot win unless the dealer goes bust.

Losing by busting is psychologically worse for many players than losing to the dealer.

If you hit and bust it’s your fault. If you stand and lose, you can say the dealer was lucky and you have no responsibility for the loss.

Players get so preoccupied in trying to avoid going bust, that they fail to focus on the probabilities of winning and losing, when neither player nor the dealer goes bust.

The Gamblers Fallacy and Luck

Many players increase their bet after a loss and decrease it after a win. Called “the gambler’s fallacy,” the idea is that if you lose a hand, the odds go up that you will win the next hand, and vice versa.

This of course is irrational, but players fear losing and go to protect the winnings they have.

Other players do the reverse, increasing the bet size after a win and decreasing it after a loss. The logic here is that luck comes in streaks; so if you’re hot, increase your bets!

Why Do Players Act Irrationally When They Should Act Rationally?

There are players who don’t know basic strategy and fall into the above psychological traps. Experienced players do so as well. The reasons for this are normally associated with the following:

1. Players cannot detach themselves from the fact that winning blackjack requires losing periods, they get frustrated and try to get their losses back.

2. They fall into the trap that we all do, in that once “wont make a difference” and try another way of playing.

3. A player may have other things on his mind and is not focusing on the game and these blur his judgement and make him mentally lazy.

If You Have a Plan, You need to follow it!

This can be psychologically difficult for many players because it requires mental discipline to focus over the long term, take losses on the chin and remain mentally focused.

Winning at blackjack requires the discipline to execute a plan; if you don’t have discipline, you don’t have a plan!

The psychology of blackjack is an important but underestimated trait in winning at blackjack over the long term.

Why do People Gamble?

Gambling is a past-time activity enjoyed by many people. Some play at home with friends and family on special occasions like New Year’s Eve and Christmas. Others play for leisure and profit at clubs, casinos and other licensed establishments.

Gambling games vary. At home, people usually play poker, blackjack and other games that involve the use of cards. At casinos, the games on offer will usually include blackjack, roulette, poker, craps, casino war and baccarat. Clubs will generally offer slots and video poker machines.

Peoples’ playing habits vary, from those that play on the rare occasion, to those that play every now and then at clubs where they might go to dine or drink with friends. Some people enjoy visiting their local casino on a regular basis.

What draws people to gambling?

For some, gambling is a pleasurable way to pass time and forget about life’s pressures and problems. Such people will simply try to play their worries away. Some people are compelled by the thrill of winning and imagine they will win big one day. The risk and potential win can create an adrenalin rush, which keeps them engaged.

To conclude: gambling is a common past time enjoyed by a wide variety of people. It’s played in a variety of settings, on a variety of occasions and for a variety of different reasons.

Money Talks - November 18

Monday, June 26th, 2006

Money Talks and more listeners are listening.

Word of Leroy’s Money Talks contest has rapidly spread throughout the gambling community and the audience is growing.

A radio show during which the competition is held occupies the 8 to 9 p.m. slot and airs on KDWN (720-AM), just before the 9 to 10 p.m. Stardust Invitational.

Matches are held at the Riviera Hotel-Casino, one of more than 60 Leroy’s sports book outlets in the Silver State.

Former Las Vegas and offshore bookmaker Jimmy Vacarro, now marketing director for Leroy’s, and gaming writer Arne Lang host the radio show.

Money Talks’ 16 invitees each put up $2,500 from their own pockets and Leroy’s added $10,000 to the pot for a total of $50,000.

Players were paired into eight opening-round matches, with winners advancing to Round 2.

Bryan Leonard, a member of the Professional Handicappers League at ProCappers.com, tangled with fellow Las Vegan and former Canadian Alf Musketa this weekend; meanwhile, Professional Handicapper League member Doc Moseman and ex-bookmaker Nick Bogdanovich “replayed” their tie match from a week ago.

Leroy’s two weekly participants make seven hypothetical wagers, from $770 (to win $700) down to $110 (to win $100). The person who earns the most money wins.

Three of Week 11’s four contestants apparently are expecting another hurricane to sweep across Bayou country and blow away the Wave on Saturday.

Make that Golden Hurricane and Green Wave.

Similarly to players in Leroy’s College Challenge, the trio overwhelmingly took Tulsa minus two touchdowns versus Conference USA opponent Tulane.

Leonard and Musketa actually had two selections in common, Tulane and Iowa minus 4 1/2 over Minnesota. Each also used only college games.

The Green Wave was a $200 play for Leonard and $100 for Musketa; Iowa was Leonard’s $100 pick and Musketa’s $500 wager.

Leonard’s other choices were Vanderbilt plus 11 ($700), Middle Tennesee State plus 18 ($600), Navy minus 27 ($500), Ohio State minus 3 ($400) and Central Florida minus 11.

Musketa tabbed Stanford plus 5 1/2 ($700), Kansas State minus 3 ($600), Oklahoma State plus 2 1/2 ($400), Alabama plus 7 ($300) and San Diego State minus 7 ($200).

Moseman and Bogdanovich each took Fresno State plus 24 as a $100 pick.

Moseman also went with South Florida minus 20 ($700). Panthers minus 3 ($600), San Jose State minus 7 1/2 ($500), Minnesota plus 4 1/2 ($400), Texans plus 7 ($300) and Tulsa minus 14 ($200).

Bogdanovich’s plays were Packers minus 4 1/2 ($700), Chargers minus 11 ($600), Titans plus 4 ($500), Kansas State minus 3 ($400), Clemson minus 2 1/2 ($300) and Ohio State ($200).

The champion will receive $40,000 and the runnerup $10,000.

Chicago Pete Ventrella is the only contestant to have advanced into Round 3 so far.

Online Casinos: the Good, the Bad, the Ugly

The Good

You may have a fascination with basking in the glory of millions of dollars, a comfortable business while relaxing on your couch…wondering what is this all about? Many have found ‘online casinos’ an opportunity to make money via the electronic medium. These casinos are gaining popularity due to the spectrum of benefits they endow.

-Online casinos provide an easy access to gaming anytime. So you needn’t worry of heavy showers, chilly mornings and foggy days. The gaming aficionados can play multitude of games just by being at home.

-One amongst many wonderful aspects of casinos online is that even the physically handicapped who cannot budge out of their houses, can have a great time because of these casinos.

-Almost all the cherished games such as poker, roulette and others can be relished online without much expenditure. Cost effectiveness is a noteworthy feature of betting through the net. This is so for gambling online saves commutation charges plus the heavy expense one incurs on food and beverages while playing in a casino.

-Those individuals for whom Internet gambling is not a mere source of entertainment, are cautious of the odds and returns being offered by different casinos. The best part is that while playing online an individual can think peacefully and be focused on his game for he is away from the hurly burly of the casinos.

The Bad

-The games and the technique to play them remains the same, the rules and regulations too do not vary largely, but what definitely is missing in online gaming is the mind boggling and exclusive ambience of a casino. For instance Roulette might lose its charm without the finely crafted Roulette table and beautifully machined metal wheels. The internet will serve you only with graphics depriving you of the amazing experience of mahogany side rails to rest your elbows and glistening chrome wheel.

-If your children are watching you play every time on the Internet, this might have an adverse impact on their minds.

The Ugly

-The worst feature of gambling online is its addictiveness, which is relatively stronger in this case. This is because this gambling can be done at any hour of the day.

A big factor in all of this can be which online casino a person chooses to use. Some are merely average, while others offer fantastic service and special deals. For responsible players, good online casinos can turn out to be an excellent way to give vent to your gaming spirit.

02/09/06 Could Be a Betting Bonanza For Football Fans

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

September 2, 2006 will be a special day in college football as the PAC 10 invades the unfriendly confines of SEC country, for a tripleheader that will quickly define who has a powerful conference in 2006.

This is USC coach Pete Carroll’s year to re-load and before anyone feels too sorry for him understand that the two players vying to replace Leinart were both regarded as the top prep quarterback in America their senior years. Bush, like Leinart, will be missed, but there’s a roll-call list of young, highly regarded runners anxious to win the job at tailback.

This is a team that went 37-2 the past three seasons with both of those losses coming by three points. Enough quality players return buoyed by a string of recruiting classes regarded among the finest in the country to give USC another shot at being in the middle of the BCS mix.

The problem for the Trojans is their opening week visit to hot, humid and hostile Arkansas where the embarrassed Razorbacks are waiting. Last season, USC hung up seventy points on Houston Nutt’s team and payback is on their minds rather than southern hospitality.

The number floating around Vegas has USC a 10 ½ point pick and I love the dog here and am definitely going to place a bet with my online sportsbook.

That same day, the California Golden Bears travel to Knoxville for a visit with the troubled Tennessee Volunteers. The Vols are coming off a pathetic 2005 season and the Golden Bears have been talented the last few years. The problem for bettors here is that the number will be inflated leaning Tennessee’s way as they are thought to have great athletes.

I would assume that Cal will be a + 4 dog and laying the wood with Phil Fulmer’s team is not recommended! Here isn’t going to be any online sports betting from me on this one.

I’m staying away here!

The third Pac 10/SEC tilt has the Cougars from Washington State heading to Alabama to face the Tigers of Auburn. There is controversy surrounding Tommy Tubberville’s program, but Washington State is overmatched here. Lay the wood!

How To Win Playing Texas Hold’em Tournaments

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Have you ever watched the final table of a huge poker tournament? Many times you will see unknown poker players winning hundreds upon thousands of dollars in a single tournament. In order to successfully win playing Texas Hold’em, you need to educate yourself. The easiest way to start playing poker requires you to memorize starting hand requirements. You should be raising high pocket pairs from aces to tens about three times the big blind. After you raise pre-flop, you should make a continuation bet on the flop. For pocket pairs nines to twos, you should be limping in any position and calling a small raise. With these small pocket pairs, you are hoping to hit your set. If you don’t hit your set, you should give up the hand to anyone who bets. If you hit your set or three of a kind, you should play it aggressively and put a nice sized raise into the pot.

As you progress as a player, you will learn how to play a wider range of hands. The better players are able to raise and call with any two cards. They use their ability to read their opponents to play poker. The great players know how to sense weakness in their opponents and bet them off pots. Learn how to play poker beginning with starting hand requirements. After you master the simple tight-aggressive strategy, it’s time for you to develop your reads. Focus on every action your opponent makes and try to figure out when he is strong or weak. Over time, you will develop an instinct that will allow you to pick up on your opponent’s weaknesses. Every day at the poker table will be a learning experience if you are focusing on your opponents. I hope your powers of observation will take you to the final table one day.

Getting Started with Poker Affiliate Programs

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Many people know what affiliate programs are, but few people know how to profit from them. One of the most profitable industries to be an affiliate for is the online gaming industry. Every year people bring home thousands of dollars worth of commissions from some of the top online gambling sites.

As an affiliate, it is his or her job to promote the product they are selling. Without people seeing the affiliate’s site or links the affiliate will never earn a dime. The key to success in any affiliate program is traffic. An affiliate must bring traffic to their website in order to make any sales or get any referrals. The easiest way, but most expensive, is to pay for your traffic. This is referred to as pay per click advertising or PPC. Most affiliates know all about this, and it can be a very good way to bring traffic to your site.

Many major search engines do not allow gambling content to be advertised so often smaller search engines are used. However some affiliates have been able to get advertisements up on google with some clever websites.

Many affiliates choose to write articles on subjects that they have knowledge of to promote their websites. These articles should be well thought out and not be a blatant sales letter. Start by brainstorming for a while, and eventually come up with an outline for the article. The article should be at least 250 words to be considered effective. Then submit the article to e-zines. These sites will be the source of the traffic from the article. This is a good way to get traffic to a site, and many marketers swear by it.

When choosing a casino or poker room to promote, be sure to do proper research. Their are many forums out there that discuss numerous affiliate programs in order to let fellow affiliates know of scams. Believe it or not some poker rooms do not pay their affiliates.

Remember that traffic is the key, and once you have traffic the money will come flowing in.
