Emerging Online Casinos in Spanish Market

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Online casinos activity into the Spanish market as well as the Latin American online casino popularity have been growing tremendously day by day, and it doesn’t seem to stop.

For that reason many online casinos are getting very interested on entering into these markets as they are still in certain way virgin.

The two larger markets for the online casino industry are Mexico and Spain, being the second the one that brings more online casino players and therefore, more revenues for the online casinos.

Actually not just online casinos are the ones making good money but also the online casino review sites and online casino affiliates, who found a great niche market to make more money from online casino percertage.

Is true that every online casino has a site in Spanish, but what we can’t see is how in their backend they are recruiting new online casino professionals to take care of the support service, live chat and other interesting tools that online casinos must provide to their online casino players.

I’m certain that this tendency on the Latin American and Spanish markets will continue growing on the following months, and years, and don’t have to rest importance to Latin origin US citizens who prefer using the Spanish language for news, to shop, and also to gamble at online casinos in Spanish.

5 More Poker Playin’ Movie Stars: Part II - Whoopi, James Woods, and Friends Tackle Texas Hold ‘em

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

For Part I, see http://ezinearticles.com/?id=78317

Part II begins here:

Lights! Camera! Action! Hold ‘em! Fold ‘em!

If the average American is ga-ga about the Texas Hold ‘em craze, how do you think the movie stars, who can afford to drop r-e-a-l-l-y big bucks at a friendly Saturday night poker game, feel about it?

One indication of their interest is a regular game in toney Bel-Air, California, called the “Billionaire Boys” which attracts the likes of Ben Affleck, Tobey Maguire, Leonardo di Caprio, and (boy?), Mimi Rogers where big bucks change hands at every meeting.

Here are five more poker playin’ stars:

* Tobey Maguire, “Spiderman,” like Ben Affleck, is also the real deal. In October, 2004 Tobey won his first major poker tournament at Phil Hellmuth’s Poker Invitational at the Hollywood Park Casino, a $2,000 buy-in event that netted him $95,480 for his first place finish. He climbed over 122 other players on his way to the top. Hosts high stakes games in his Hollywood Hills home where he has a room set aside just for poker and he recently bought a pad in Vegas to be close to the poker action.

* James Woods. Woods is a bright guy, an MIT grad, who played Sharon Stone’s lover in the classic Vegas movie, “Casino.” He has been nominated for Oscars and Emmys, and has a Golden Globe award on his mantle. He and Vince Van Patten sponsor an online poker site, HollywoodPoker.com. Woods also has a gig on the GSN (Game Show Network) where the “James Woods Gang” takes on the “Unabombers” (Pro Phil Laak is “the Unabomber). Laak’s squeeze is actress Jennifer Tilly who was profiled in Part I of Poker Playin’ Movie Stars.

* Mimi Rogers. Nominated for an Oscar for a 1991 film, “The Rapture,” Mimi is one of Hollywood’s hardest working actresses. A former Playboy model, Mimi was the first wife of Tom Cruise. When not working at her day job, she plays serious poker, journeying to Ireland in the summer of 2005 to open the Gaming Club World Poker Championship. She picked up $5,700 in a northern California tournament in 2004 and often appears on Bravo TV’s “Celebrity Poker Showdown.”

* Leonardo di Caprio. “I won my ticket on the Titanic in a lucky hand at poker,” says Leonardo as Jack Dawson, one of the doomed passengers on the fated ship that sank in 1918. Like Affleck, Maguire, Damon and Edward Norton, he entered the 2005 World Series of Poker. Digitalspy.com reports that he recently attended a poker-themed birthday party for Justin Timberlake.

* Academy Award winner (“Ghost”), Whoopi Goldberg, likes to play poker, according to the Poker Gazette, “to improve her social skills.” Whoopi, whose real name is Caryn Johnson, hosts poker nights in her Vermont home, inviting up to 30 friends and neighbors at a time. She says, “I’m truly an anti-social person and I decided the older I was getting that I really needed to try to develop better people skills.” Her parties started nine or ten years ago and now include her plumber and electrician.

Check out Part I for the first five stars, add these five, and you now have ten poker playin’ movie stars to think about. Next time you see one of their movies, picture them hunched over their cards, and saying “All In.”

One piece of advice. Beware of actors at your table. Because, after all, what is a bluff, but good acting?

Table Stakes And The Freeze-Out In Poker

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

Table Stakes In Poker

“I must have leave to pass.” Coriolanus. Act V., Scene 2d.

By table stakes, or playing table stakes, a person who bets must have the money before him. It prevents any credit. You cannot owe when “table stakes” are played, nor can you be raised out for more chips or money than you have before you; as far as reducing credit to a minimum, it is useful.

In olden times, when table stakes were played, it was employed as a device to drive out another player. If he had not the chips or money, he left. He had, however, one recourse. He might declare his ability to raise the money. Then the game was closed for the time being, and the hands sealed up for twelve hours. Then if he showed up with the money the game was continued.

The Freeze-Out “I pray you, pass with your best violence.” Hamlet. Act V., Scene 2d.

The freeze-out is so called because when it is played all the performers are left out in the cold, with the exception of one. It is a duel at cards. In a certain way it has its advantages, because it limits individual losses. The players each take the same number of chips, and the game closes when one player has won them all. For example, five players each take twenty chips. There are one hundred chips out. The freeze-out is ended when one of the party has the one hundred chips. The game is carried on under all the rules of poker, with, however, this exception, and that is in regard to the limit, for it never should be played without the limit. Say the limit is ten, one player or more is reduced to his last five chips. The player having the bulk of chips cannot then insist on the limit, he, can only bet as many chips as his, adversaries have. The freeze-out is not precisely a social game, because necessarily the players drop out one by one. At the conclusion of the game it is obvious that great caution is necessary. The last chips are carefully nursed. Jack-pots are not generally played in a freeze-out, but this is optional.

How To Spot Poker Tells

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Though poker is a game of chance, and your game is as good as your hand, there are ways to get the most out of your hand even with a bad hand. Though this hand won’t likely win the game, it will help you become a better player.

Learning your opponent’s habits is also very important to your game. Often times, players have certain expressions and gestures they use, usually without noticing them, that occur when certain things happen. For instance, someone who is bluffing may bring their hand to their face every time they do this. After a while, people learn to recognize this gesture and know it signifies the player is bluffing. These types of expressions and gestures are known as poker tells.

By definition, a poker tell is any habit, behavior, or physical reaction that gives other players more information about your hand. The more you play with the same opponents, the more you will come to recognize such occurrences.

Listed here are tips that can help you spot poker tells. Remember that in poker there are many contradictions and exceptions. Also, experienced players often give false tells in order to fool other players.

Watch the eyes. Many experienced players wear caps or sunglasses while playing because they know that the eyes rarely lie. For example, many players can’t help but stare at big hole cards, so they peek for a longer period of time.

Facial expression. Here too, many experienced players try to disguise their facial expression by wearing a cap or looking down so as to avoid the classic stare down that poker pros are famous for like when trying to study a person’s face to try and detect nervousness detecting a weak hand, repetitive body characteristics like a body “tic”.

Weak is Strong/Strong is Weak. In its simplest form, this usually applies to novice players but can frequently apply to pros as well. Most players like to act, and when they have a great hand, they will often appear disinterested thereby, sometimes tricking their opponents. Adversely, a player who raises the level of his or her voice while raising the level of the pot, trying to look intimidating, may actually be bluffing.

Anxiety. Anxiety typically occurs when a player is either confronted or facing confrontation. Psychologists often call this the “Fight or Flight” response. This is believed to link back to cave man days where physical changes happened such as muscle flexing, dilation of the pupils of the eyes, heart palpitations, ETC. In poker, a player with a big hand is often ready for confrontation and may exhibit any or all of these characteristics. You may notice the player’s chest expanding abnormally, or his or her voice become higher than usual.

While these are just a few of the poker tells you may notice in your opponents, they are of the most common to occur. Being able to spot them is important and essential to your being able to bluff, and may even help you avoid such tells yourself.

100,000 Players Can’t Be Wrong: The Largest Poker Sites Online

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Sure, there’s a lot of poker rooms online, but let’s face it. When it comes to finding the best competition, there’s one factor that levels the playing field: volume. Small and intimate poker rooms might be nice when you’re hanging out with friends, but if you’re looking to make some money, you need to go to where the action is.

The largest sites are home to thousands of players trying their luck and skill 24 hours a day, and it’s at these sites you’re sure to find some opponents on your level. If you’re looking to jump right in, these are the big daddies of online poker.

PartyPoker.com

Even when there’s not a tournament going on, which is rare, Party Poker has more players online than other sites can only dream about. Low to high limit tournaments run around the clock in a variety of games including the standard Hold`em and Omaha tables, and regular contests offer prize pools in the millions of dollars. Party Poker didn’t get to be the biggest by being slow; you’re ready to go within minutes of downloading the software and making your first deposit. The sign-up bonus isn’t too shabby either, with first time players offered 20 percent up to $200. New players are also given the opportunity to sit in a $5,000 free-roll tournament, a great boost to the bankroll of a sufficiently skilled player.

PokerStars.com

A force on the poker scene since 2000, Poker Stars has grown to claim the most tournament traffic of any online room in the world. Its satellite tournaments have produced two World Series of Poker champions, both of whom were just regular players on the site. Poker Stars is also home to the World Championship of Online Poker, the single largest tournament of its kind. As you’d expect from a site this large, the variety of games is decent, but not spectacular. Weekly Texas Hold`em tournaments offer a guaranteed prize pool of at least $1 million, and the site offers no-rake micro-limit games. The sign-up bonus is a low fixed sum of $25, but that hasn’t stopped thousands from making Poker Stars one of the busiest poker sites on the ‘Net.

UltimateBet.com

With some of the best sign-up bonuses in the industry, it’s no wonder Ultimate Bet has quickly grown to take its place as one of the largest online poker rooms in the world. Just for signing up, all players get a shot at a $1 million free-roll tournament, where one winner will take home $500,000. The software is some of the best around, and it allows smart players to keep track of multiple games with ease. The program also adds a little touch of the neighborhood poker game, with a buddy system that lets you know when friends are online. Ultimate Bet offers an excellent variety of games, and while Hold`em captures most of the attention; the action is pretty well divided among the different games.

PokerRoom.com

Considered by many players to be one of the best online poker rooms on the Internet, Poker Room is without a doubt one of the biggest. The site offers players the opportunity to play everything from blackjack to slots, but as the name suggests, poker is what put it on the map. With a variety of Hold`em, Stud and Omaha tables packed to the gills, Poker Room offers decent sign-up bonuses and non-stop tournament action. Poker Room is rare in that there’s no software to download; the user controls are Java-based and can be played on a PC or a Mac with no problems.

7 Critical Factors You Must Know Before You Play Any Hand in Texas Hold’em Poker

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Being a poker professional I receive tons of emails and questions about how to play certain hands or what I would do in a particular situation. In this article I’ve outlined seven critical factors you need to be aware of any time you play Texas Hold’em poker.

Use this article as an outline to help make the best possible decisions when playing poker. All of these factors are very important to understand if you want to be a successful Texas Holdem player.

1. Table Position.

The first thing to notice when playing Holdem is where you’re at on the table. There are good positions and bad positions.

The best position is when you’re on the button. That is the Dealer Button. The reason for this is because you get to act last and see what everyone else does before you.

The worst position in my opinion is the small blind. Since you have a little money already in the pot you may play marginal hands that you wouldn’t otherwise. Thus you get yourself into a lot more pots when you really shouldn’t be. Most of the time these come back to bite you.

2. The Read on Your Opponents

The read you have on your opponents is all important. Depending if you’re playing against real loose players or real tight players will greatly help in choosing what hands to play and how to play them. The best way to get a read on your opponents is to simply watch how they play when you’re not playing.

3. Number of Players at the Table

The number of people at a table is important mainly because it will increase or decrease the strength of your hand. If you have a full table of ten you’re A,T suited won’t be nearly as strong as if your playing at a short-handed table of five or six. All of a sudden that A,T suited is now very strong.

4. Number of Players in the Hand

This goes along with rule number two but with a slight variation. When everyone at a full table folds except for you and one opponent; immediately your hand strength has grown stronger.

However, you need to be aware of one thing. You must be aware of all the other cards that were folded. Granted you won’t know what they were but you can make an educated guess based on the read you have on other players. Most of the time your opponents folded because they didn’t catch a monster hand. Even if there are loose players at the table and they folded. You know they folded junk or they would still be in the hand.

Therefore if you have a low to middle pair the likelihood of you hitting trips on the flop diminishes. So you need to proceed with caution. On the other hand if you have A,Q suited be aggressive in your play.

5. Your Cards

What are your cards? This is important. Right? Now you will see some of the pros talk about how they don’t even have to look at their cards sometimes because they know their opponents so well. If you’re reading this my guess is you’re not one of them. Therefore, the cards we’re dealt have a dramatic impact on our ability to win. We must be patient. And when the right hands are dealt we need to be ready to pounce and win big pots.

6. Chip Stacks

The reason chip stacks are important is because people play differently when the size of their chip stack changes. For example, if you’re the short stack you may play more tightly waiting for that right hand. At the same time if you’re the chip leader you may get so aggressive and try to bully people around and steal blinds. Now I’m not saying either way is the right or wrong way to play. It’s just important to know how your opponents begin to change their play as their chip stacks change. How do you change your play when you’re the short stack or the chip leader?

7. Table Action

What’s going on before you? Does the guy to your right always lay down big raises? It’s important to pay close attention to what the action is doing before it comes to you. If someone raises, and then two people reraise and you’re sitting on QQ you may want to lay it down. You can safely assume someone if not two people have AA and KK leaving you on the short end of the stick if you choose to play.

Remember, poker takes only a minute to learn and a lifetime to master. Understand and use these seven critical factors to help you master the game and win a lot more when you play Texas Holdem poker.

Play Poker for Free Online

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

To play poker for free online is one of the easiest and increasingly popular ways to learn the game, especially Texas No-Limit Hold’Em. Virtually all online poker rooms will let players come in at no cost because they would love to have you as a real money player in the future. It is less intimidating and far cheaper than going to a land based poker room. And if you live in an area where you cannot drive to a poker room, playing over the Internet becomes even more attractive. Combining the purchase of a couple of good books on Texas Hold’Em with the 24/7 online availability of a place to practice and learn will allow anyone to increase their knowledge and ability on the game of poker.

When selecting somewhere to begin playing at no cost, it pays to look into what benefits are offered to the player by the poker rooms. Some offer play money tournaments on top of regular table play which can help to learn and practice your tournament strategies. If you have never played before, make sure they have tutorials for the different types of poker, a “How to Play Poker Games” section in addition to a ranking of poker hands. It’s also a good idea to go over the system requirements so that when you download their software it will work on your computer.

Also look into sign up bonuses, real money account funding methods, player point programs and the variety of real money tournaments offered so that you are familiar with them when you are ready to begin playing for cash. Some poker rooms will offer extra real money sign up incentives to their fun players just to make sure their customers remain playing with them. “Bad Beat Jackpots” are being offered more and more, (A bad beat takes place when a player has a great hand like four 8’s which was beaten by a even better hand like four Aces. The loser has received a bad beat.), but there are differences so take time to become knowledgeable on these as well. They can range from a flat amount of money for the person receiving the bad beat to others which have a progressive jackpot that can run into the tens of thousands.

For those who join a poker room and come to the point to where they want to play for real money, there are additional opportunities to play without cash. And these can be profitable. They are “Freeroll Tournaments” and “Player Point Programs”. Freeroll tournaments are free entires into poker tournaments that cost nothing to get into. These pay cash or other awards to the player depending on how well they did during the tournament. You can either enter a freeroll when they are made available or you could receive an invitation from the online poker room itself. Player point programs are points awarded from the poker room to you based on your time at the tables.

Depending on the program, these points can be redeemed for cash, merchandise or entry fees into satellite tournaments. You could potentially enter a satellite tournament with prize seats to the World Poker Tour or World Series of Poker events and win huge amounts of cash. In 2004 Greg Raymer entered a satellite tournament through an online poker room, won a WSOP seat and eventually went on the win the World Series of Poker title and $5,000,000 in cash.

There are still other ways that will allow a person to play for free. When playing for fun at an online poker room, referring a real money player can result in actual cash for you to play with. And today charitable organizations, businesses or corporations offer online poker tournaments for promotion purposes. These are announced randomly, so keep your eyes and ears opened.

Finally, consider signing up for free online surveys and focus groups that pay cash for participation. Just search the Internet for online surveys or focus groups to get started. A person won’t get rich or quit their job behind what they bring in, but the money can fund the entry fees for a number of low cost online poker tournaments.

How to Play Lottery

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

Just about every country in the world has its own version of the lottery and in the USA alone there are dozens of different rules depending on whether you play a state lottery or the national lottery. This article will list the common rules that exist for most versions of the lottery. Most states impose a minimum age limit on players, ranging from 16 to 21.

The game begins when the player receives a lottery ticket or slip. In some instances, a board may be used. We’ll imagine that the player is using a ticket in these instructions. The ticket will have rows or columns of boxes containing numbers from 1 through 49.

The player needs to choose six numbers between 1 and 49 and mark their choices on the ticket, usually by putting a cross through the number. In some versions of the game, multiple sets of numbers can be used at once. A common alternative to this routine is to have the numbers chosen at random by the computer. This saves the player time and is useful for those who suffer from indecision!

Players should make sure that all the other information on the ticket is filled in, including name and address and the type of game, or ‘draw’, being played. In some instances, players may be able to choose to play the same numbers for multiple weeks. The choices really do vary from game to game so players need to carefully read through all of the given information when making their decision.

Once the ticket has been completed, players need to hand it in to their retailer or put it through a terminal device themselves. A printout will be handed back containing the player’s selections; the most important thing for the player now is remembering to check his or her numbers when the draw comes up. Every year millions of dollars go unclaimed in lottery games, so remember first and foremost to keep your ticket safe and claim any prize within six months or a year, depending on the regulations!

If three or more numbers in the draw match those on your ticket, you’ve won a prize. Three, four or five number matches offer small to substantial winnings; five numbers plus the bonus offer a reward much greater, whilst matching six numbers means you’ve won the jackpot. If more than one person matches the six numbers then the prize will be shared equally between the winners.

A Game For All Seasons

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

An overall review of online casino software has led me to question the objective behind Microgaming’s constant release of new games and titles. Considering the fact that Microgaming Systems is one of the biggest and the leading software provider on the Internet, it is their game which have led to their award-winning reputation in the industry, but this does not explain the phenomenon that occurs every few months.

This occurrence to which I refer is the release of four to five different games from the Microgaming stable, which is rolled out to most of their hi-tech online casinos. The games are mostly Video slots, reel slot machines and Video poker and they add to the already-existing variety of games at these casinos. Fair enough, the profitability of new game launches is a great draw card but apart from that, why else would a perfectly acceptable range of games need to be constantly updated?

One reason behind this could be the change in times. Take for example, the greatly animated, highly exciting 5-reel Tomb Raider Video slot game, it was an excellent marketing tool for many of the casinos that carry this game and for players, it was a chance to really get up, close and personal with the infamous Ms. Lara Croft. Sure this might have added to the entertainment of the casinos and they might have gained access to new players who are seeking the thrill of living out of a “Croft adventure”. Apart from the great themes, cheesy music and awesome graphics – what else are these new games offering players that is so appealing?

If you think about it, one could ultimately be aiming for these games because they are new and are unchartered territory, thereby offering players a better chance at the Progressive jackpots, which is usually linked to these new games. Take for instance a recent occurrence at one of the Fortune Lounge Group’s casinos where a player won about US$1,100 from playing the newly released Deuces and Joker 50 Play Power Poker, and this was within the first few days of its launch at their casinos.

The flipside to this theory is that Microgaming is just trying to acquire people with different tastes and is applying a bevy of games as the remedy for not getting bored on their casino floors. If this is the case then where would a “child-ish” game like Munchkins fit in?

If this is really to be taken in context of the casino and entertainment market then I cannot clearly recommend a category, as this game is cute and cuddly and very easy to identify with if you’ve watched the Muppets and the like. It’s almost like having Sesame Street on reels and the paylines have quite funny sound effects for the different Scatter and Wild symbols. Granted, Munchkins is quite an interactive Video slot but apart from that, I cannot identify with the theme as an adult and that leads me to question who Microgaming is really trying to target?

Now this leads us back to our very first dilemma. In order for us to get to grips with the aim for all these new game releases, we would have to understand Microgaming’s ethos and that is to “always be fast and furious”. If this doesn’t smell like trying to keep up with consumer tends and a change in times, I don’t know what does, and that signals to me that the very reason why you will always find something new to try out when you visit their casinos. In other words as a customer why should we be the ones to shy away from diversity and variety when that’s what we shop around for all the time. So I’d suggest that you just sit back and enjoy all the fantastic choices because that’s what they’re made for.
