What You Need To Know About Casinos

Monday, August 21st, 2006

In earlier times, casinos referred to a small villa or outhouse built on the grounds of a larger Italian villa or palazzo. These were built specifically to house entertaining activities. Since the 19th century, the meaning of the word casino changed completely. Casinos then included public buildings where leisure activities such as gambling and sports were housed.

A casino refers to a building that allows all sorts of gambling games and activities. Players may gamble by playing slot machines or board games. Whether a player plays directly with the casino or with another fellow player, the casino has a predetermined stake in all the winnings. In the latter case, the set amount is known as commission.

It is important to realize that casinos do not create wealth. Casinos by themselves cannot generate revenue. However, they are institutions where wealth is usually transferred. In the gambling business, a set amount of money is spent with the possibility of winning more money. In relation to casino income, most of it is money that has transferred from the players’ hands to the casino.

Spending in casinos leaves people with less money to use in other markets. This directly affects the economy of the players, who may be from any part of the world. Gambling is a habit-forming activity. At times, this addiction could lead to bankruptcy. Some people are known to have resorted to criminal activities, including theft and burglary to support their fondness for gambling.

The possibility of easily multiplying their wealth attracts people to casinos. At times, mere curiosity makes people enter a casino for the first time. Other people may just do it for some quick cash. A number of people start gambling with minimal cash at first. Hence the chances of suffering greater losses are reduced. However, a good winning streak can make a person an addict for life.

The Joys Of Playing Internet Poker

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

I started playing poker on the internet about six months ago and I must say I absolutely love it.

I had had no real interest in poker until I watched it at a friends house on satellite TV. The tournament was the World Series of Poker and my friend who was a huge fan of poker was explaining the rules as I was watching.

Over the next few months I continued to watch the poker on TV and became more and more interested.

I thought, I could do that and organised a game with a few friends. It was a good evening, even though I ended up losing some money, maybe its not as easy as it looks, I thought to myself.

One day I was discussing my new found interest with a colleague at work. He confirmed that it was also an interest of his and stated that he played poker online.

He described the bonuses involved and the fact you are able to interact with the other players via a chat box, very similar to that of a chatroom.

I decided to check it out for myself and started playing at sporting odds. I now play virtually every day and find it very relaxing.

For me the best thing about online poker is the fact that you can play so many more hands per hour than you can in the house or at a casino.

FIFA Friendly Match Italy vs. Ukraine

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Lausanne, Switzerland - 02.06.2006

Italy’s National team is up for great things this year as they go to Germany to participate in the biggest soccer event; the Italian squad is one of the most renowned teams in the history of soccer, always with great performances in the final stage of the FIFA World Cup and this year won’t be the exception.

In the pre-FIFA World Cup training camp, the Italian squad will face the Ukrainian squad in Switzerland just a few days before the competition starts.

Italy will tune and sync the National team in this training camp; this is the time to go back and review all the mistakes made in the qualifying round and hopefully try to correct them in time.

In team news, Monaco striker Christian Vieri and Sampdoria defender Aimo Diana have been ruled out of Italy’s FIFA World World Cup squad due to injuries, Italian coach Marcello Lippi said on Tuesday.

“I have very clear ideas about my squad and a few injuries have contributed to clarifying the position,” Lippi told the Italian news agency ANSA on Tuesday.

Now we are focusing on the Ukrainian team lead by Milan’s superstar forward Andriy Shevchenko. They want to make their first participation in the World Cup a very good one; it’s a very motivated and talented squad that can surprise any team.

But they received bad news this week; Andriy Shevchenko has been sidelined for 25 days with a knee injury; the Serie A club said on Monday. The former European Player of the Year picked up the injury early in Milan’s 3-2 win over Parma in the Serie A on Sunday. Milan said the forward had suffered “a sprain and stretching of the medial collateral ligament” but ruled out any need for an operation.

Shevchenko will miss Milan’s final game of the season at home to Roma. Milan trails leaders Juventus by three points with one game remaining.

Ukraine will face their Italian counterparts on June 2nd in a game that will work for both teams as the final tune-up just two weeks before the World Cup begins.

For all the soccer fans out there most sports books will have lines for these friendly matches, so do your homework and pick your winners in this preparation road for the big event.

Earning a Living from Online Casino’s

Friday, August 18th, 2006

There are many ways of earning money. Most people go to work doing a nine to five job and getting paid for it. The coming of the computer age has allowed some people to work from the homes which have also been productive. If work can be done at home, can the same thing happen for someone who wants to do it from joining online casinos?

Gambling and working are two different things. In casinos, there is always the element of chance. The player may make some money in a few hands and may also lose a few. The person may get lucky in a few days but to earn a living from it is totally out of the question.

Not all online gaming sites are the same. Some work in favor of the player while some are in favor of the establishment. Even if a player is able to find a reputable site to frequently play in, the hands may also do well for the other players.

There is another way to make money from the web. That does not involve shelling out money or betting in the games. It can be done by being an affiliate. An affiliate is someone who earns a certain percentage of money for working on an online gambling site.

This is very similar to a lot of electronic business sites wherein a person will get some money for every product that is purchased. The affiliate in the case of online casinos does not have to make any marketing material since this has already been provided by the online site. This works differently depending on the type of program used by the online casino but just like e-business, money is made from each player who logs in.

This can be done by first making a portal website. If the person knows how to do this then there is no problem. Should the person have no idea where to start, then asking the assistance of a professional can help. It is also possible to download a template from the internet for free which can be used as a startup.

After this has been established, then it is time to look for a reputable casino to tie up with. The person should feel comfortable in dealing with these people who can also be contacted anytime if there are any problems. Once an agreement has been reached, money can be made from every referral that is brought in.

Anyone can become an affiliate and the nice thing about it is the person does not have to shell out any money. This is because the online gambling site and has done most of the work and the only thing that needs to be done is to promote it for increased traffic. This partnership is a win-win situation for both parties since this means that revenue is coming in.

There are so many casino affiliate programs to choose from. Before selecting one, it is best to check what the benefits are. Once it has been selected then finding a good online casino site to partner with is the next phase. The person has to be careful where to invest. Some of these online sites are not reputable and are just there to steal money from people.

10 Free Poker Lessons

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

1. Practice

Don’t start spending money until you know how to play the game. Find a game that you like and study that poker variation. Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker game out there, but if you want to Hold’em get in on the madness, you got to know what you’re doing. Chance plays a big factor in the game of poker, but the effects of luck can be diminished by experience. The more hand you play the better you be at knowing when to hold and when to fold.

2. Don’t play every hand.

It’s really not necessary. Poker is all about patience and observation. Take the time to observe your opponents. When you’re playing in an online poker room, you obviously have a more difficult time reading the players around you, but you can still take note of their betting patterns and adjust you game accordingly. If there’s a bully at the table muscling his way through multiple hands with big chip raises, wait for something decent and then milk the situation for all it’s worth. When you’re out of a hand, pay attention to the continuing action. Just be patient and know that eventually you’ll be dealt cards that you can do some damage with.

3. Don’t fish for cards when you don’t have to.

Sure it might be great to chase a straight and win the pot, but do you really need to gamble when the odds aren’t really in your favor? When you play poker online, especially in tournaments, you need to fight off the need to fish for cards. Play smart, wait for your opportunities and don’t waste your chips chasing a low-probability hand.

4. Know when to fold

One of the best moves you can make in poker is knowing exactly when to give up. Do the math, play the odds, listen to your gut, whatever you do, don’t force it. In the long run, poker punishes people who push there luck.

5. Don’t think everyone’s always bluffing.

Bluffs are like seasoning. Just the right amount can really add some flavor, but to much tends to create a bitter taste. If you play smart, there’s no need to try to bluff your way out of every hand. And if your not sure whether the guy in front of you has the nuts (the best hand available), or whether he’s just bluffing, lean towards the safe side and know when to let go.

6. Develop you own style

Don’t try to be Doyle Brunson or Phil Ivey because you think they’re cool people. Learn how to play the game your own way. Don’t try to just copy a certain style of play, or strictly follow a specific poker “system.” Find out what works for you by playing lots of hands and learning from your mistakes.

7. Take your time to decide

Don’t feel rushed to make a quick decision. If you need some time to consider your next move, relax, think and don’t make a move until you’re satisfied you’ve thought it through.

8. Know you’re limitations

Don’t gamble if you’re broke and don’t battle against players that you know will take you to the cleaners.

9. Mix it up

Don’t give everyone at the table the same look every hand. Vary you’re style of play.

10. It’s just a game

Sure you’re playing for money, but in the end, poker’s just a game. Don’t let your emotions cloud your judgment and don’t let anybody put you on tilt. Be calm, play smart and just enjoy the game.

Poker Sit and Go Report: Elephants and Monkeys are Dangerous in Poker Tournaments

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

There are several good tools to use when playing online sit and go tournaments to use in profiling your opponents. Hold’em Indicator and Poker Prophecy come to mind as top rated software that work across the board on all sites. Knowing your opponent and his playing style often is the difference between making the money, or not. As a sit and go specialist, making the money consistently is a full time endeavor to be sure, made even harder by two types of players I call Elephants and Monkeys.

Your software can help you identify these players, so too can you notate their tendencies if you play on Full Tilt utilizing their color coding system. I code Elephants in GREEN, which means they are very loose players – loose/passive to be more accurate. They rarely raise, but they rarely fold too. I don’t often try to take any players off their hand early, especially true, if I don’t even have them profiled. Tip: this is yet another reason to sit and watch in the early rounds! An elephant is friendly and wants to be in many hands with friends. He will limp from any position, and often plays any two suited cards, and ace-anything. The bad thing about those hands, other than losing money is that they win once in awhile too, often to much stronger starting hands that create large pots for the elephant, allowing him to hang around and be friendly longer than expected. You cannot bluff an elephant. They can’t read well, and don’t respond to aggression, so your bluffs are pretty much useless against them, your weapon is patience and building a pot at the right time.

Monkeys are quite much the same profile as elephants except they are even worse in that they understand the game even less. At least elephants know what a winning hand is, where monkeys may have to be shown who had the winning hand, what the high flush was, or even that a flush beats a straight. They are not necessarily new to the game, just untrainable. In fact, they are sub-human poker players. You might be able to put an elephant on a flush draw, good luck trying to put a monkey on a hand. Again, setting these players up with your value hands is key, while avoiding aggression – you will need the best hand at the river so if you can’t get there reasonably cheap – save your chips for another confrontation. I use the PURPLE color key to know I have played this monkey before.

Hold’em Indicator is a poker calculator I use in my sit and go games, and it helps in identifying these players because it also collects statistics on your opponents when you are playing. I find that aspect of it very handy, and have used it to avoid certain players, while making moves on others. I have a video presentation of this strategy in my free video series and you are welcome to it. In the meantime, try and spot the elephant at your sit and go table before you get involved in a hand.

Last Minute NFL Season Win Total Thoughts

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Tonight the Dolphins and Steelers strap it up for real as we begin the chase to Super Bowl XXXXI. We’ve had a couple of days to digest the NFL preseason, scan final cuts, and analyze last minute free agent pickups. Here are a few impressions I have regarding NFL season win totals.

New Orleans under 6.5

As much as you want to root for the New Orleans Saints, it looks like another long year in the Crescent City. The Saints have a tremendous 1-2 punch in Deuce McAllister and super-rook Reggie Bush but the offensive line is unsettled and Drew Brees must still be viewed as a question mark after off-season shoulder surgery.

The defense appears to be a sieve and is destined to allow a ton of points. In fact, the Saints ground game may be in fact their best “defensive option” by converting third down chances and grinding out clock.

New Orleans’s schedule is brutal. The Saints draw the AFC North and their only winnable road games are against Cleveland in their opener with the Packers on the road the following week. Should the Saint’s open 0-2, it’s conceivable that they could be 0-11 heading into their December 3rd home game vs. the 49ers.

New Orleans final six road games are at Carolina, Tampa Bay, Pittsburg, Atlanta, Dallas, and the Giants. Winnable home games are San Francisco and Washington. It’s difficult seeing the saints scratching out 4-5 wins never mind the seven you would need to cash this ticket. Play the UNDER.

Houston Texans over 5.5

The Gary Kubiak hiring should pay dividends both long and short term. If David Carr is to fulfill his highly touted potential, he’ll certainly do so under the long-time ex-Denver Bronco offensive coordinator. Additions to the Texan offensive line and its new zone blocking scheme should improve the Texan running game. Carr will no longer be a piñata while attempting to pass.

The Houston defense was showing signs of coming around the final month of the season in 2005 and proved stingy in the preseason. It remains to be seen if #1 pick Mario Williams will have a Julius Peppers type impact but at worse have a solid run stopper that bring heat to opposing quarterbacks.

The Texan schedule is very manageable. The open with three of their first four at home facing *Philadelphia, *Washington, *Miami, and then Jacksonville, *Buffalo, *Tenn, Indianapolis, and *Cleveland. On the road they face Indy, Dallas, *Tenn, Giants, Jax, and finish with *Oakland, *Jets, and at New England. I’ve marked what are in my opinion winnable games and by my count see nine. I see the Texans in many 16-13 and 20-17 types of games. Houston is one year removed from 8-8 and I see 6-8 highly probable. Play the Over.

Raising the Stakes in Paradise

Monday, August 14th, 2006

The Caribbean is home to a great number of glitzy casinos and hotels and resorts with on-site gambling. The combination of sugar-sand island ambiance with all the glamor and excitement of Las Vegas makes for an ideal vacation destination for many travelers. But unlike American and European casinos, the gambling atmosphere in the Caribbean is more relaxed, and most of the island casinos are not open 24 hours a day.

Casinos and other hot gambling spots are found on many islands in the Caribbean region. In addition to state-of-the-art slot machines, table games, and other types of gaming fun, Caribbean casinos also offer other nightlife options including dance clubs, discos, and bars. So not only can you wage bets during your sunny island vacation, but you will also find many other ways to let your hair down at Caribbean gambling palaces.

Caribbean Islands That Invite You to Roll the Dice

The Bahamas

The island group that makes up The Bahamas is a popular destination among gamers who are looking for some great casino gambling. Although gambling is illegal for residents of The Bahamas, tourists can try their luck at any of the region’s spectacular casinos. The four largest casinos in The Bahamas are the Atlantis Casino on Paradise Island, the Crystal Palace Casino on New Providence Island, and The Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Royal Oasis Casino and Our Lucaya, both on Grand Bahama Island.

The famous Atlantis Casino is the largest in the Caribbean. The casino’s sprawling 30,000-square-foot area, which includes 78 table games and approximately 1,000 slot machines, has helped earned the Atlantis Casino its reputation as an immaculate gambling palace. The Atlantis also features several restaurants, outdoor terraces, and gaming lessons for the novice gambler.

The Crystal Palace Casino is another hot gaming spot in The Caribbean. As a part of the Wyndham Nassau Resort on Cable Beach, the Crystal Palace Casino offers approximately 700 slot machines and 38 tables for games such as blackjack, craps, roulette, and baccarat. The Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Royal Oasis Casino is a luxurious and exciting casino located within a plush hotel that has great choices of various games, slots, and other gambling opportunities. Finally, the newest casino in the Bahamas is Our Lucaya Resort, which offers several gambling options.

Puerto Rico

Exotic Puerto Rico offers approximately one dozen old-world-style casinos. Puerto Rican law requires all casinos to be located on the property of hotels or resorts. Many of these glamorous gambling establishments are located in the historic city of San Juan, and most require that their patrons dress formally. Casinos in Puerto Rico are some of the most exciting in the Caribbean region because of their extravagant historical décor, hot gaming, as well as their award-winning restaurants, live entertainment, array of bars and lounges, and much more.

Popular casinos in Puerto Rico include the Hyatt Regency Cerromar, Hilton Ponce and Casino, Westin Rio Mar Resort Casino, Ritz Carlton San Juan, which is the first Ritz Carlton casino, and many, many more. During your stay in Puerto Rico, you can enjoy fine dining, exciting nightlife, and spectacular gambling fun all under one roof.

Other islands in the Caribbean that feature dazzling casinos and exciting gambling are the Dominican Republic, Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, and Antigua. There are so many choices when it comes to gambling in the Caribbean that you’re sure to find the right island with the perfect casino to fit your style and your ideal vacation.

There are a few things to keep in mind before heading to the slot machines. First, each island has its own laws and rules when it comes to gambling, so be sure to find out the details about the island you visit. Second, the hours that some casinos are open may vary depending on the season, so find out ahead of time before making your plans. And finally, no one under the age of 18 is allowed in Caribbean casinos, so schedule other activities for the youngsters before you hit the casinos.

Caribbean Stud Poker

Caribbean stud poker has a relatively short history in comparison with many other popular casino card games. This poker variation started in Aruba in the 1980s, reportedly by some cruise ship directors who were out to make a buck. Caribbean stud poker is a combination of blackjack and poker – the rules of play are similar between the two games. The biggest difference between Caribbean stud poker and traditional poker is that instead of playing against other players, you go against the dealer. All players are allowed to see one of the dealer’s cards, which is dealt face up. Since it began in Aruba, the popularity of Caribbean stud poker has grown tremendously in the region and is even played in Las Vegas.

7 Ways To Avoid Online Sports Betting Scams

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

The sports betting industry is currently growing astronomically. If you didn’t already know some sportsbooks are not always equal. Sometimes a site maybe there just so they can take your money. So buyer beware that you should know the 7 ways to avoid online sports betting scams first before you place any bets anywhere.

1. What’s the location of your sports betting website?

To ensure that you’re with a honest and trust worthy sports betting website make sure they are listed on the London Stock Exchange or originate from a countries that allow sports betting such as Antigua and Costa Rica.

2. Does the website have a fast or slow internet connection?

If you’re on a website that loads really slowly it means that its under developed and is over loaded. So there is too many users signed up to the website they haven’t upgraded their technology to cater for the high amount of users. Find a website that loads quickly and has a lot of members.

3. How do they accept payements?

An popular online sports betting website should have a few payment options. Such as credit cards. If a site does not accept credit cards, then be careful.

4. When did the website original open?

Most popular online sites should be around for a couple of years. If they’ve been around for a while they will have better facilities, games, and customer support.

5. What is their customer support like?

Do they speak English? How quickly do they response to your enquiries? Do they have a 24/7 support group? These are important factors when selecting a good online sports bookie.

6. What are their wagering rules and do they have any kinds of bonuses and promotional offers?

Good solid sites will have good odds for you to make money and include bonuses and promotional offers all the time. Keeps your coming back!

7. How secure is the company?

A stock exchange listed company is definitely a safe bet. Generally speaking any company on the stock market is there for a reason. They are well run and have money to improve the company when needed.

And that’s all there is to selecting a good and safe non-scamming sports betting website. Again I cannot stress more but before you sign up make sure you’ve followed the tips above and that the company you’re about to join has many reviews by independent websites and make sure the reviews are good ones. Happy punting and all the best in your online gambling!

Online Poker - How To Choose The Right Poker Room For You

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

The great thing about playing poker online is that you can pretty much play whenever you have some free time. Got 30 minutes to spare? Then just sign on, find a game you like and start playing. It’s really that simple.

The only problem as I see it, there are so many different places to play online, how do you choose? By whoever offers the biggest bonus? The fanciest looking site?

When looking for a place to play online, consider how long the card room has been in business for – 4-5 years is a long time in the online gaming world. Sites associated with professional poker players also are more likely to be reputable – the theory being that they don’t want to be associated with a shady outfit. The pro players do not want to put their reputations on the line.

You can belong to more than one online casino or poker room as I do. Some poker rooms offer a better sign up bonus, some have better or more frequent freeroll tournaments. Another may have easier ring games. There is no limit to the number of poker rooms that you can join.

Do some research at a site that you trust which reviews online casino and poker rooms. Start out by making a small deposit. Try out the software and see if the site fits your needs. Does the site offer games at the limits that you want? Is it easy to withdraw cash? Are there enough players online when you are likely to play so that you’ll always have a good game available?

By checking out the lobby of an online site you will get to see who the players are in a particular game, the percentage of flops that they are seeing – which helps you find a tight or loose game, the number of hands being played per hour.

The most profitable games will be the ones that have larger than average pots and a high percentage of players that are seeing the flop.

Because of the relative ease that players have in switching tables, playing during lunch or before dinner means that at times you will be playing in shorthanded games.

When you are playing in a shorthanded game you should expect to play in a greater number of games. You should expect to play more hands as the value of low pairs now increases. The value of drawing hands will also decrease because there typically not enough players in the hand to make the pot large enough to chase.

Just about all online casinos have games that start out at limits as low as .05/.10 which are great for a beginner and increase in increments small enough so that you can slowly get acclimated to playing for larger pots. Of course if you prefer to go to the higher limit or no limit games, there is no shortage of these either.

One important note, if you are going to play on line, open an account with NetTeller (www.netteller.com) because most credit card companies will not allow you to deposit directly into an online casino account. Netteller will accept the credit card payments into an account and you can transfer in and out of it from there. Just about every online casino deals with them.
