PGA Championship Preview

Medinah Country Club – Medinah, Illinois

Welcome to the new Medinah. The PGA Championship returns to this historic course outside of Chicago and it is going to be quite the test for the greatest players in the world. Not only is this the longest course in major history but tight fairways, re-contoured greens and tall vegetation are going to pose a huge challenge. Let’s not forget the weather, which should be dry and hot and we could see a similar setup to the U.S. Open by weeks end.

The PGA Championship traditionally puts together the three major champions of the year for the first two rounds. That means the big story is the pairing of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, along with U.S. Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy. Woods and Mickelson are known to not get along, although both deny that claim, so many are interested to see how they interact in the first two rounds. Both are so focused on their games however that there won’t be any interaction to try and read into.

Woods is the obvious choice and everyone’s choice to win his 12th major but there are plenty of other contenders that we need to speak of. The American’s have dominated the Championship as they have won eight of the last nine Wanamaker Trophies with Vijay Singh being the lone exception. Across the pond, they are getting edgy as Europe has been shut out since Paul Lawrie won the 1999 British Open. Here is a look at the top four players who look to have the best shot and also the smallest odds.

Tiger Woods (+270) Not only did he win at this venue the last time a major was played here in 1999 but the recent form he has displayed makes him the top choice as well. Coming off two wins since missing the cut at the U.S. Open, he is firing on all cylinders. Woods has posted top-fives in six of his last seven major championship starts including three victories and he can make some more history at Medinah this week as no one has ever won the PGA Championship twice on the same golf course.

Phil Mickelson (+1200) Since the final hole debacle at Winged Foot, Mickelson has been 65th at the Western Open, 22nd at the Open Championship and missed the cut last week at the International, one of his favorite places. Despite winning last year with a closing-round 2-over 72, has posted his last three final rounds in the PGA above par (72, 74, 75). Mickelson’s 16 top-ten finishes in majors since 2000 is tied with Woods for the most during that span.

Jim Furyk (+1400) Furyk has been nothing short of consistent with nine top-ten finishes in 18 starts, including six in the top three. He hasn’t finished worse than fourth in any tournament since the U.S. Open, a four-tournament streak that includes two majors. He has only missed two cuts this year, and he’s never finished lower than 33rd in the events where he’s completed all four rounds. He hits it straight, has a great short game and even though he’s not the longest of hitters, that should not hurt him here.

Ernie Els (+1600) Els could be back as he is playing some of his best golf of the season after a slow start. He finished in third place at the Open Championship and prior to that was 9th at the Barclays event at Westchester. He finished great at the International and when he plays well, this type of U.S. Open type venue fits him well. However, he has closed with an over-par round in his last four PGA Championships with a final-round scoring average of 73.00 during that period.

Online Poker Site

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Do you enjoy playing at online poker sites? Poker today has garnered a whole new generation of fans, mainly due to the ease of access with online poker games. But, if you do not already play at a particular site, you may be wondering just what to look for in an online poker site.

Foremost, you want to play at an online poker site that is reputable. If you are only playing for free, this might not seem as important if you are playing for money, but some poker sites that are not reputable may have you download their software that contains spyware and malware. If you are planning to play at an online poker site with real money, check to see if any of the professional pokers players endorse this site. People like Doyle Brunson, Phil Gordon, and Daniel Negreanu all endorse different web sites. If there is a professional who puts his name behind the online poker site, you can bet it is on the up and up. If not, it would ruin their reputation!

Other things you might want to look for in online poker sites are those that let you chat with other players. You can learn a lot just by chatting or even just by reading the chat of other players. Some online poker sites even offer you the ability to turn chat off, in case players get offensive.

Finally, you will want to find an online poker site that has easy to use software. If you try one site, but find the software cumbersome to use, check out another site. Eventually, you will find an online poker site that is perfect for you!

Learning From My Gambling Blunders

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

First to explain why I write this article. I have been gambling online or at land based casinos for many years. I have learned, the addiction can take a hold of you and you won’t even realize it until you are broke. Especially if you are on a winning streak. I have gone through many thousands of dollars in only a short period of time and still on occasion, I will go too far. It seems you are just having fun until you decide to pay attention to your loss and the guilt sets in, and then you keep telling yourself “I can win it back” repeatedly. It never works. Then you feel queasy in your stomach and the harder you try the faster you lose.

When you see that you are up, STAY on the UP! When you begin to lose, don’t tell yourself, “well just maybe one more” and again and again, believe me, this method RARELY ever works. Say you are playing on slots, have an amount set aside prior to beginning your play. DO NOT go over that limit, no matter how tempting. If you happen to win, put that in a different pot. Do not spend your winnings no matter what. Once you have played through your original set limit, stop. Leave, whether it’s online or at a land based casino, do not stick around. Always keep in mind, there will be another day, another time. Obviously, this method can work for any game that you play, be it bingo, poker, video poker, keno, blackjack or any other.

Remember, gambling is supposed to be FUN not exhausting, nauseating work! If you aren’t enjoying yourself, you don’t belong there. If you can’t afford the loss, don’t even start.

This article goes along with Gambling Tips.

Oh the Thrill and Despair of Gambling

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I do not know of many people who LIKE to work hard and just receive a salary at the end of the month. There is a dream in most of us that somewhere along the line, Lady luck will be in our favour and we will receive

a small windfall

a big jackpot

the national lotto.

Dreaming is good. Creating a picture in your mind is the stip to manifistation of what you want.

Careful though. There is a thin line between greed and wanting abundance. Greed is the ONE thing that drags people into addiction.

“If only I win now , I ll be rich.” Not true.

There is a saying that your gold is set out for you every day. Look for it as if it IS a million dollars, but then be happy if today it is only a hundred.

I spend my life helping people. Some I charge, others get the advise for free. It depends what I feel at that moment in time.

Seeing that spring is around the corner, I decided it is a good time to give back to the Universe.

That is one of the reasons I write here. You see, wanting to win a big jackpot is like wanting magic to be in the movies. Yet , it does not quite work like that.

Magic wants you to visualise, then use some tools and it will manifest. But.. if you do not visualize exactly.. you will be surprised when the manifistation is not quite what you expected.

Think for a moment about your favourite flower. Got it? Ok. Now think of the colour of your favourite flower. Ok what is it? Mine is a purple tulip. Now we both asked for a colour and a flower.. yet we get two totally different things… See what I mean?

Heed what I said above. Gambling should be FUN, not work or despair. If you are desperate to win, chances are you will lose. The subconcious mind see it as desperation : no money. no win. So before you decide to take a chance with Lady Luck.. visualize what you want. Believe. Relax. Have fun.. When it comes.. you will simply smile and breathe a quiet thank you to the universe.

More than this I can not say for then I am breaking rules ;) That’s all.

Best wishes

How to Win Texas Hold’em

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Texas Hold’em…minutes to learn, life time to master. One of the most important things that you need to do in order to win, is to be patient. Most people that are unsuccessful are the ones that like to play every hand and chase cards. Be selective on the hands you play and you will increase your odds greatly. Get an understanding of how the other players at the table are playing, loose….tight? This is important to know because the person playing loose is very hard to bet out of a hand and the players that are tight usually only play when they have a monster hand.

A few tips to remember. A loose player likes to bluff alot, one way to feel a loose player out is to raise his bet or check raise him and watch how they react. Remember mentally how they reacted in each betting round, so if it does come to the show down and you see their cards, you have just been given a great read on their style of play. A tight player generally only plays the “nuts” early on, but then they know you have a read on them and their style of play, so in the later rounds they try stealing the pot with a big bet. If you have a feeling they might be trying to steal the pot, again raise their bet. If a tight player is quick to call, more than likely they have a hand so fold. Otherwise with your raise, a tight player will put you on a higher hand, fold and wait until their hand comes along.

Watch how players are betting and remember that, so if it comes to a show down and cards are turned over, you’ll get a good read on their betting sytle. What I mean here is; did they have a made hand or were they on a draw? Did they bet on the flop, turn and river, or slow play their hand? It’s very important to learn how others play in order to win in the later rounds when the blinds are higher.

Playing Pocket Pairs. a couple things I suggest, if its early in a game wait to see a flop. The more players at the table, the riskier it is to go all-in. Wait until you see the flop and then if you pocket pair is higher than the board, bet aggressivly and see how others react. If over cards come out and someone bets big, do not be affraid to fold. Be cautious to what the board gives you, does it give other players an opportunity at a straight or flush? Several times I have had my Aces cracked going all in pre-flop. Later in the game and with less players, pocket pairs increase in strength, becasue you are not on a draw, unless someone else has a pocket pair that is higher than yours.

Bluffing, this is a big part of the game. Alot of players seem to be bluffing more (more so online). Here again, you need to get a feel on others playing styles in order to get a read on them to determine if it is a bluff or strong hand. All players bluff to win a pot, you have to. I think you need to bluff a win, maybe one an hour. If you are a player that doesn’t get caught in bluffs early on, it makes it that much easier to bluff a win once the pot is larger in the later rounds. If you do get caught early and often, players are more than likely to call your bets and get tells that you may not know you have.

On TILT? Another important part of this game is to control your emotions. We all take bad beats or fold a winning hand, it’s a part of the game, but if you get upset or go on tilt, you will not win! Stand up for a minute, sit out a hand, get your thoughts together, put it behind you and get re-focused.

Always remember to be patient and play solid hands. It’s a marathon not a sprint. A Thought to play by; it’s aways better to rake a small pot than to lose a big one.

Winning Online Poker Strategy: Improving Your Tournament Play

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Online poker tournament play can be a daunting experience for even the most seasoned veteran so when you are ready to get started in tournament play it is best to have a solid strategy and that you have taken the time to get comfortable with tournament play.

There is a philosophy used by many musicians that can be applied to preparing for tournament play. Musicians may spend hours in their rehearsal space pretending they are on stage at Madison Square Garden or Carnegie Hall, preparing themselves for the experience by imaging themselves in it. The same philosophy can be used in preparing for tournament play. Start with single table tournaments and pretend you are at the final table at the World Championship. Every chip is precious as is ever move you make, apply this simple philosophy to your early single table tournament play and it will help you develop the skills needed later on when you make the move to multi table tournaments.

A smart strategy to use when beginning at single table tournaments is to play only premium hands in the first three rounds. Slowly open up and play more hands and get more aggressive as the tournaments continues and as shorter handed the tournament becomes.

By slowly building your bankroll and getting within one or two spots from the money it is easier to rob the more desperate players trying to make their money back. Play aggressive at this stage and jump on the chance at taking more of their chips!

As with your standard online poker play, you should always stick to your strategy. Fold often, use you bluff sparingly and always be aware of the habits and tells of the other players involved in your game. Be prepared and aware of what types of players are playing at your table and use their habits against them. Studying the other players early in the game will arm you with valuable information that will help you deep into the game. Playing a few early bluffs may be an effective tool in your strategy as can early folds. Your aggressive play should increase deeper into the game but, at the same time, you should be playing a smart disciplined game. It is easier to get aggressive when you feel in control of the game, so study, study, study!

Finally, never get yourself into a tournament you are not prepared for! Build your skills and get comfortable with the experience before jumping in.

Online Poker:

Online Poker is the Poker game played over the internet. Back in the year 2005, revenues from online poker were estimated to be USD $200 million per month and there was a drastic increase recorded in the number of poker players around the globe.

An overview:

An online poker game as compared to the land based poker game is economical. The reason for this difference is that online poker has lesser charges per head.

Online Poker games are considered more user friendly than a normal land based Poker.

However, besides the positive factors of online poker there are certain disadvantageous points as well. One simple example is that at times online poker players face a lot of player to player collusion.

Nevertheless, online poker has attained a lot of popularity in a very short span of time.

Some of the big names of this industry are given below:
