Foote Notes: Streaking Into Rivalry Saturday

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Iowa “Hawk-Eyeing” Floyd of Rosedale … Iowa will no doubt have all it can handle against Minnesota and its top ranked ground game on Saturday. But if history is any indication, Ferentz will have his team up to task. After all, Iowa is a staggering 27-5 its past thirty-two at Kinnick Stadium and has held a firm upper hand in this Floyd of Rosedale battle. In fact, the Hawkeyes are an eye-opening 11-1 ATS their past twelve vs. the Gophers, including 6-0 ATS the past six series meetings in Iowa City.

No Fighting Chance for the Illini … Northwestern was spanked 48-7 at Ohio State last week, but is a resilient 13-4 ATS its past seventeen coming off a loss. This is simply bad news for an Illinois team that is 0-7 SU and 1-6 ATS in Big 10 play this season with the average margin of defeat coming by 34.3 PPG!!! Note also that the visitor is 9-3 ATS the past twelve in this Prairie State rivalry.

Wolfpack “Chalk Up” Another ATS Loss … The Blue Raiders will seek more green when they march into Raleigh for a meeting with NC State on Saturday. And by all accounts, MTSU will get it! Blue Raiders now 3-0 ATS on the road this season, while Amato’s troops are now a perfect 0-10 ATS their past ten at Carter Finley Stadium. This is not to mention NC State’s “401K – Killing” 0-15 ATS record when priced as chalk!!!

“School of Hard Knocks” in Knoxville … Even if Commodores unable to end bitter 22-game straight up series losing streak, odds are they will still be marching to the ticket window. After all, Vandy is now 7-1 ATS its last eight as a road pup, including 4-0 ATS in that role this year. Meanwhile, the underachieving Vols are now 2-13 ATS their past fifteen priced as a favorite. This stretch includes a back-breaking 2-10 ATS mark their past twelve as home chalk and 0-5 ATS mark as Knoxville chalk this season.

Wazzu a “Bad Apple”? The underdog has taken the cash in seven of Washington State’s nine games this season. This is not good news for the Cougars, who are 3-point favorites at rival Washington in this year’s Apple Cup. The Huskies are in off a 38-14 win at Arizona as a 13-point dog last Saturday and have had the better of this Evergreen State rivalry. Washington has taken home six of the last seven Apple Cups and is 5-0 ATS in the past five meetings.

SEC Rivals “Iron-Out” Differences … Auburn is not only the best two-loss team in the nation, but has also been money in conference play with a 12-4 ATS mark its past sixteen vs. SEC foes. But points will be at a premium in this defensive oriented rivalry and that makes ‘Bama the potential side of choice. Note that the dog has covered each of the past five “Iron Bowls”, while the visitor has covered eight of the past ten between the bitter southern rivals.

Ducks Seek Cover … If history is any indication, Oregon should grab the win and cover when it plays host to rival Oregon State. After all, the host is now 8-0 SU and 7-1 ATS the past eight “Civil War” meetings and Ducks haven’t soon forgotten last year’s 50-21 roasting in Corvallis.

Cal “Bears Brunt” of Erratic QB … The Golden Bears QB Joe “the Boob” Ayoob tossed four more interceptions against USC last week, which gives him 14 INT’s for the year. This erratic play is no doubt a major reason Cal is 0-5 ATS in its past five and may prove giant trouble against the smoke and mirror act of Stanford. The Cardinal has been outgained in six of seven Pac-10 tilts, yet is 6-1 ATS in these games and 6-0 ATS its past six when priced as an underdog.

WSOP Wagering

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Picking a World Poker Tour event champion is like finding a stolen dog in Las Vegas.

It’s the old proverbial needle in a haystack.

Tabbing a World Series of Poker champion in this day and age, with upwards of 8,000 entrants expected for the 2006 event, could be likened to finding a bottle with a note addressed to you on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

It used to be much easier when only hundreds of players entered the fray, but now, with thousands …

Nevada books are forbidden by state law to accept wagers on the WSOP, though one book tried to get away with it years ago and learned quickly such odds were verboten.

“It would take a consortium of major sports books to go to the Gaming Control Board to request it (WSOP betting) and I don’t think that’s going to happen,” said Las Vegas Hilton oddsmaker Jeff Sherman.

A few British outlets have dispensed odds, heavy on Europeans and listing former European Player of the Year David “El Blondie” Colclough as the early favorite.

Top international stars such as Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan, Chris Ferguson and the other usual suspects also are listed among favorites.

Offshore book BetUSA.com has posted a wide array of odds, ranging up to 3,000/1.

Ivey is the favorite at 150/1, with Negreanu at 225/1, Howard Lederer and Phil Hellmuth at 250/1, Gus Hansen, Ferguson and John Juanda at 300/1 and Barry Greenstein, Carlos Mortenson, 2004 champion Greg “Fossilman” Raymer, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi and Layne Flack at 400/1.

Annie Duke is the favored female at 500/1, the same as Phil “Unabomber” Laak.

Laak’s longtime girlfriend Jennifer Tilley is 1500/1, along with Isabelle Mercier.

Defending champion Joe Hachem is 1000/1, the same as World Poker Tour broadcaster Mike Sexton.

Steve Dannenmann, last year’s runnerup, is 2000/1.

Colclough is 750/1.

Costa Rican-based BoDog.com has taken another route.

Understanding the scope of just how difficult it would be for a person to choose a WSOP winner in advance, the House of Ayre is offering the wagering public a variety of propositions that are tied into the tournament.

Props ask if the winner will be male (minus $15.00) or female (plus $10.00) and from the USA (minus $4.50) or the rest of the world (plus $2.75).

Bettors also can wager on what the winning hand will be.

Odds are: royal flush, 210/1, straight flush, 155/1, four of a kind, 60/1, full house, 8/1; high card, 17/4; flush, 2/1; two pair, 8/5; pair, 7/4; and straight and three of a kind, 1/1.

Players also can get action on what the age of the champion will be.

Age 36 to 40 is the favorite at 3/2, while 31 to 35 and 41 to 45 are 3/1.

Online Gambling Games

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Online gambling is the usual term used for gambling using the Internet. Different forms of online gambling are online poker, online casinos, online sports betting, online bingo, mobile gambling, etc. Online gambling games can be divided into two groups based on their interface: web-based gambling games and downloadable gambling games. In the downloadable format, it requires the gambler to download certain software to play these games. Some online gambling sites offer more than one interface.

There are over 100 online gambling games available in various online gambling sites which includes blackjack, keno, roulette, baccarat, craps, pai gow poker, video poker, slot machines, sic bo, etc. Various games of poker are offered in online poker rooms such as Texas hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven-card stud, Seven-card stud Hi/Lo, etc. These online poker sites offer games in both ring game type and tournament structures. Bookmakers and wagering exchanges offer fixed-odds gambling over the Internet on the results of sporting events. Online bingo rooms also offer games on the Internet, but they use a random number generator instead of balls. Some online poker card rooms and online casinos offer mobile gambling options also.

Online gambling games are played against other players or against the “house” in which the house makes its money through the rake or due to the fact that the odds are slightly in its favor. Usually, players upload funds to the online gambling operator, make bets or play the games they offer, and then cash out any profits. Electronic money services such as Firepay, Moneybookers, Neteller, etc. offer accounts with which players can fund online gambling, although common payment modes are by checks and wire transfers.

Any player must be aware of certain factors before participating in any online gambling game. Operating online gambling games without a proper license is illegal. Each state has specific laws against online gambling of any kind. Also gambling operators can cheat the gamblers using some software or refusing to pay. It should also be kept in mind that the gambling games are formatted in such a manner that the probability of winning is determined by the “house.”

Championship Betting Review - 22 January 2006

Monday, November 13th, 2006

Sheffield United cut Reading’s lead at the top of the Championship to just seven points with a convincing 3-1 win against relegation-threatened Brighton & Hove Albion. The Blades were 1/2 good things to win their twelfth match of the season before kick-off.

Despite Reading being four points and 25 points clear of Crystal Palace the bookmakers found it difficult to separate them. Andy Johnson opened the scoring for Palace with a 78 minute penalty, but James Harper earned the Royals a draw with a goal just two minutes later.

Third placed Leeds United were victorious in their Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday. Two from former Owls striker Richard Cresswell eased Leeds to a comfortable 8/11 home victory.

Fourth in the table Watford looked set to slip further behind Leeds until a 90 minute winner earned them a 3-2 away victory at Norwich City at odds of 2/1.

Cardiff City stayed within touching distance of the play-offs with a 2-1 win at Leicester. Cameron Jerome, 5/1 to finish the season as the Championship’s top goalscorer, took his tally to 13 goals while a Jason Koumas free kick ensured an away win at odds of 7/4.

Wolves lost ground on the play-off pack with a goalless draw at bottom-but-one side Millwall, their 13 draw out of the 30 matches played this season, something which will have been picked up on by shrewd punters who backed the 9/4 draw odds.

Former Cardiff City striker Alan Lee, netted both goals for new club Ipswich Town and earned the Tractor Boys an unlikely 5/2 win against Southampton.

Two first half goals did Plymouth Argyle’s relegation battle the power of good, earning a 15/8 victory at bottom club Crewe Alexandra.

The stand-out match of the day was Coventry City’s 6-1 demolition of vs Derby County which put the Sky Blues nine points clear of the drop zone but edged the Rams further into trouble. It was 2/1 shots Derby who found an opening goal in the first minute, but six goals in reply made the 5/4 appear the safest bet of the day.

Basketball Lines

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Betting basketball lines is exciting and can be lucrative if you know what’s behind the lines. In other words, what factors are used to determine the basketball lines on a game or series of games? The overall record of the teams is certainly a factor as are their records against each other, but there can be much more involved. Sports betting experts determine the basketball lines and consulting a good sports expert can help you decide if you want to place a bet on a particular game.

For example, suppose there is an injury to a key player that might affect performance in the next few games. You’ll certainly want to know the extent of the injury and how it will ultimately affect the individual and team performance. It’s certainly been a factor in determining the basketball lines on one or more games, but you may not find the information about it in the morning newspaper or a TV sportscast. An expert who knows the details about basketball lines will have what you need.

Betting basketball lines takes solid knowledge of the sport and the teams and having that knowledge can have a big impact on whether you win or lose. After all, it might be nice to always bet on your home team and know you’ll win, but that isn’t going to happen. You need an edge to help you win and it’s more than just asking drinking buddies what they think. So get the facts and place your bet.

Group E Predictions for Germany 2006

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Italy is a team that regardless of winning the World Cup in 1934, 1938 and in 1982 has not performed up to the expectations in the past. If I was to sum up their show off in Japan Korea World Cup the word boring is the first that comes to my mind. The strategy was to get people to focus on how hard it is to face a host nation.

Marcelo Lippi is now Italy’s new coach, and he has taken a hard-line approach with the players not paying any attention to the inflated egos of some of the Italian stars that he handles. In the seasons of 2004 and 2005, Lippi sought to refresh the team by bringing in nine stars to the team and they turned out to be just what Italy needed during the qualification campaign.Amongst Lippi’s choices are 5 from Juventus, 5 players from AC Milan and 4 from Palermo.

Czech Republic confirmed their presence at the international scene at the 2004 European Championship. They made some of the best performances in terms of good football and during the tournament, and losing only in the final stage playing a great semi-final game against Greece.

Karel Bruckner is the coach and he secured a place for them in Germany 2006 World Cup with a team strong in the attack with a lot of style and with their heart Pavel Nedved.

They also have Petr Cech, who might be the Premiership’s best goalkeeper. Tomas Rosicky domains the midfield and he is surely going to make an impact on this tournament and Milan Baros who seems to come back to live whenever he is playing for his country.

Some might think though that this group is a two team competition, however USA and Ghana are in all the way. It is hard to be fair when you see analize what Czech Republic and Italy can do, but the Americans can be dangerous to underestimate. The USA have some genuine top-class youngsters in their lineup and it really wouldn’t be wise to overlook the USA, but at the same time, if the Czechs and Italy perform as we know they can, then they shouldn’t fare better than third place in Group E.
