People gravitate towards poker for various reasons. For some players, poker is a way to socialize—a way to congregate with friends and pass the time away. Limit Texas Holdem Poker

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Limit Texas Holdem Poker is the most popular type of holdem poker, attracting many novice poker players. The reason it is so popular is because the betting is not too aggressive. The stakes are not high and because the betting is limited, you can easily compete with very little money.

If you are playing at a 50c/$1 Limit Texas Holdem Poker table, the betting will be limited to increments of 50c for the pre-flop and flop, and $1 for the Turn and River rounds.

If you are unfamiliar with these poker terms then read the Texas Holdem Poker Terms article for a clear explanation of what they mean.

In Limit poker rooms the best poker hand most often wins, because players are more likely to stay in the game and force a showdown. If you were playing in a No Limit Poker Room players are more likely to fold before the turn or river, than risk losing a large piece of their stack.

Bluffing in Limit games are not very common, because it’s not too costly for your opponent to call if he suspects that you are trying to bluff him.

If you’re playing at a low-limit table and you’re dealt a strong hand you should try to keep as many players in the game as possible. Trying checking if you’re one of the first to place a bet, this should trick most players into thinking your hand is weak.

After you reach the Turn begin to raise, and try to build the pot up as big as you can.

The key is to draw as many bets out of your opponents without revealing that you are in a strong position.

In low-limit poker games you should be looking for pre-flop hands that are no less than a 9s or higher pair, or two high rank unpaired cards. Read the Texas Holdem Poker Hands article to learn more about poker hands.

You can play limit poker games online for free; check out the Trident Poker online casino.

Custom Poker Chips

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Casinos have long been using custom poker chips for their clients playing pleasure. Custom chips are not only for gazing upon, the customization serves a purpose. When a casino opts for customized chips, they are not only branding the chip to their establishment, they are also protecting themselves from thieves.

The type of chips used, which are usually clay composite chips are nearly impossible to duplicate in themselves. Adding customization to the poker chips makes them a much more secure playing option, which thwarts most of the would-be chip counterfeiters.

The cost of these secure chips is a little more expensive. However even with the increased cost, the combination of the higher end composite chip plus the one of a kind logo imprinted on the chip makes up for itself in the money saved from those who would try and make knock offs of the casino’s chips. Without these precautions, casinos around the world would go bankrupt virtually overnight.

With the variety of custom designs available, casinos can insure that they have a one of a kind chip which appeals to the players and provides the needed security. Design options are only limited to the imagination.

Of course, casinos are not the only ones who are opting for personalized poker chips. Many players have found that the customization of their poker chips gives their games an added appeal, playing with flashier pieces that cater to the owner’s sense of style.

If you’re looking to get customized chips for your weekly poker game, then you’ll be pleased to find you have several options, which range from inexpensive to extravagant.

On the low end of the monetary spectrum, players can make their own customized chips by simply placing stickers on existing chips. Next up the chain, players can opt to use a graphics program to create one of a kind graphics then print them off using an inkjet printer onto sticker paper. You may also purchase chip labels from an online poker supply store.

If designing and applying your custom logos, you can purchase a set of 500 composite clay chips with recessed centers for around twenty five cents each. Look for specials at poker supply retailers, and at online auctions.

On the high end of chip customization, you can order your chips brand new with either hot stamping or a custom label for up to two dollars per chip.

Internet Poker Bonuses: Another Reason To Play Poker Online

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Internet poker bonuses are given when a player deposits money into their account and then proceeds to play in real money tournaments. There are generally two types of internet poker bonuses. The first is a bonus when you deposit money into your player account for the first time. Usually this bonus is a matching percentage of the amount you deposit into your real money account.

Most poker rooms offer less than 100%, but you can find 100% matching internet poker bonuses. There is often a restriction of when the internet poker bonuses are given to you however. Often you have to play a certain number of hands or earn a certain amount of player points. Each online poker room will have slightly different rules, so make sure you are informed about the rules.

Other internet poker bonuses can include redeposit incentives. Since the poker room wants to keep players around, often they will offer a redeposit bonus. This is applicable once you make another deposit into your account after your initial deposit. These types of internet poker bonuses also have certain requirements, so make sure that you understand what the rules are if the redeposit bonus is something you are interested in.

If you are just beginning to play poker virtually, there may be a good reason for you to pick a poker site and play there: internet poker bonuses. Either type of bonus can bring more money into your player account, which hopefully means more money for you in the long run.

#59 North Carolina Tar Heels Preview

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Spring practices are in the books and fall camps will be here before you know it so that means getting an early jump on the 2006 NCAA football season. Knowing the teams now will save you time in August and Matt Fargo is here to help you get a grasp of what to expect this upcoming year. We go from worst to first in this 2006 College Football Preview.

#59 – North Carolina Tar Heels 5-6 SU; 6-5 ATS

Fargo’s Take North Carolina has been one of the most inconsistent teams in the country over the last eight season as it has not had more than two consecutive winning or losing seasons over that span. Above average years have been followed up with bad years and vice versa so where the Tar Heels finish this season is anyone’s guess. They are in the middle of the pack in the nation for just that reason. The offense will be breaking in a new quarterback in a new system by a new offensive coordinator while the defense needs to replace four key players from last season. The offense was horrid last season and the new aspects can only improve things but how much improvement is the real question. North Carolina alternated wins and losses over its final seven games last year and a tough three-point home loss to Maryland cost the Tar Heels a chance at a second straight bowl appearance. They could get back in 2006 as the schedule is on their side down the stretch.

Returning Starters on Offense – 5 North Carolina finished 104th in the country in scoring offense and 102nd in total offense last season which was the worst rankings since John Bunting took over six years ago. New offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti comes over from Fresno St. where he guided the Bulldogs to some very successful offensive outputs. He brings in a new offensive philosophy where running he ball with be the priority to go along with a downfield passing attack. Tailback Ronnie McGill is back for his senior season but injuries have held him back so he still remains a question. The quarterback duty is likely to go to Joe Dailey, the transfer from Nebraska, who has the most experience of the signal callers in camp. The offensive line is extremely young as are the wide receivers so while there looks to be improvements in place, there are also lingering issues that need to be addressed right away.

Returning Starters on Defense – 7 The Tar Heels had a huge turnaround on defense last season as they improved by 97 ypg from 2004 and allowed the fewest amount of points since 2001. If not for allowing 69 points to Louisville, the scoring average was at 21.9 ppg which improves the scoring defense ranking from 63rd to 28th. While replacing four of the best players from the defense last year will be difficult, there are plenty of capable replacements that should be able to help right away. The defensive line is very experienced while the secondary brings back three starters from the 49th ranked passing defense. The best linebacker on the squad is Larry Edwards but his return is in question due to academic issues in the spring. He is the leading returning tackler and if he cannot qualify in the fall, it will be a huge hit.

Schedule North Carolina played the 6th toughest schedule in the nation last season and still nearly made it to a bowl game. The slate is not as difficult this time around but playing in the ACC makes it difficult enough. The Tar Heels begin the season with three straight home games with one of those against Virginia Tech in their conference opener. Following the three-game homestand, North Carolina has to travel for back-to-back games at Clemson and Miami, both sure losses. A home non-conference game against South Florida is after those contests and then a trip to Notre Dame comes after a short two-game ACC run. North Carolina closes the year with home games against Georgia Tech and NC State before heading to rival Duke for the finale. Florida St. and Boston College from the Atlantic did not make the schedule.

You can bet on… This is one of the toughest teams in the country to figure of as there are a lot of unknowns going on in Chapel Hill. The offense needs to jell right away with two difficult games to start the season and a 2-1 start is vital but the games against the Tigers and Hurricanes could possibly lead to a 1-4 start with the firing of Bunting more than likely. The Tar Heels are just 5-13 against the number at home when giving points but 4-1 as a road favorite over that same span. They likely won’t be favored often with the first chalk game being the home opener against Rutgers and then not again until the game against South Florida. That is a big contest for both teams that will feature two good defenses against rebuilding offenses and the outcome could go a long way for both squads.

Video Poker - Tips to Remember

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Video poker is an easy game to learn to play well, so do take the time to learn the basic draw strategy, as well as the best machines to play (the ones with the most favorable payout schedule). In addition, the tips below will give you a better chance of winning and overall make the game more enjoyable.

+ Never keep a kicker (an extra card, often an ace) with any pair. This lowers your chance of drawing three of a kind.

+ Make certain the “hold” button shows for each card you want to hold before pushing the draw button.

+ Make sure the machine uses a “hold” button. Most do, but a few use a “discard” button instead, where you indicate the cards you want to discard by pushing the button instead of the cards you want to hold.

+ Take your time and consult the draw chart given above for every hand. One of the advantages of playing a machine is that no one will rush you. Take all the time you want. Think each hand through, have a drink, smoke a cigarette, the machine will always sit there waiting patiently!

+ If you are a beginner, pick the lowest denomination of machine you can find and play on it until you are familiar and comfortable with the drawing strategy.

Follow these tips and you money will last longer and you just might be the one to hit that 600,000 to 1 odds royal flush!

Good Luck!

Online Poker Tips and Strategy: Learn How to Win at the Internet Table

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Online poker playing has become a favorite past time for many people around the world. The game of online poker is rapidly gaining popularity, and there are thousands of players on most of the major websites at any given time during the day and night. Becoming successful at online poker can also be financially rewarding for many players. To do this, you have to have a good strategy for the game. Several players run into games with no real plan in their head, and not really focused, and many will end up losing their shirts. There are several known errors that online poker players make that could easily be avoided by a good strategy before the game is begun.

One common mistake many online poker players make is that they are afraid to switch tables when needed. If you constantly play at the same table with the same opponents, they are going to learn to read your hands, your bluffs, and will be much harder for you to defeat. Experienced poker players will observe their opponents and pick up on their habits and quirks, giving them a winning advantage. They will also learn your betting habits and be better able to counter you. Staying at one table does give you the advantage of knowing your opponents better, but it is important to keep in mind that while you are learning other players, they are doing the same to you.

One of the most important things to keep in mind in any poker game is that you need to manage your money. Before you ever play, you should have a budgeted amount of disposable income that you can afford to wager, and not allow yourself to go beyond that amount during the game. Disposable income is any money that is left over once all of your other obligations have been met, food, mortgage, utilities, etc. You should also consider your poker playing ability as well when you are setting your betting limit. If you are a fairly new player, you should probably set lower limits, because you are more likely to lose your money than more experienced players. You also have to consider how much risk you want to take, playing in low limit games is pretty safe, but the higher limit games are very risky as these are usually more experienced players and play more aggressively because they place large bets. The best players are always aware of their bankroll and their limits.

Many online poker players are leery of poker tournaments. Players who regularly participate in tournaments however, will tell you that they can be the most fun and a lot of times, the most profitable for the winners. As with any poker game, luck does factor into your success, but luck does not account for skill. If you are considering playing in online poker tournaments, you need to be aware of the buy-in amount, and keep in mind that is money that you may well lose. New players to online poker tournaments will often lose their money quickly, so keep this in mind when you are playing the game and placing your bets. There are also numerous resources that can give you tips and tricks for being successful in online poker tournaments, a little research often will go a long way.

If you are going to be a serious online poker player, it is important that you know when to quit. It is hard for many players to understand this concept. Many players will play and play until they run so far into the red, they create financial problems for themselves and their families. They start to lose, and think they will play one more game to get the money back they lost, and they just continue to lose. By this point, their game is affected, because they are losing their focus, and usually will end up going on tilt, which will make the losing cycle that much harder to break. It is important to recognize that even the best players are human and have good days and bad days at the tables. Great players understand this, and when they see themselves begin a losing streak, or having a bad day, they know it is time to call it quits and come back to play another day. Learning to walk away at the right times, can save you quite a bit of financial hardship. You will find that you are better able to enjoy the game once you learn this valuable skill.

Playing online poker can be a very enjoyable experience, and also can be very profitable. The most important thing that players need to remember is just to play smart. Stay focused on the game, know what your limits are and stay within those. Learn how to manage your money wisely, and know when it is time to walk away. Keeping these things in mind, should help you become a better player.

Craps Betting — Using Field & Hop Bets To Win

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

In craps the bets below are not seen as the best odds wise, but when you are betting in craps they add some variety and they can give you the excitement of a big payout, so let’s look at them.

Unlike a pass bet, the field bet is good only for one roll.

This means that if any other number than a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 rolls, you lose your bet.

Statistically the remaining numbers of 5, 6, 7 and 8 roll have chance of 20 times compared to the field numbers rolling only 16 times.

Any craps pro will tell you that winning depends on streaks.

So if they see a positive streak, they bet more.

If they see a negative one coming, they simply bet less. If you want play the field, you must determine when its time to increase or decrease your bets.

A pro’s approach to this is to establish a win goal and loss limit.

For example, you are buying-in at $300 (your stake), so a good starting unit on the field can be $5. This strategy calls for you to stop making bets, when you have won or lost 30% of your stake, or $100.

To make this work, you must keep betting on the field without missing any bets.

The dealer has to be sure you are doing this, so you will have to bet before the come out as well. Never miss a bet.

How to do it

Say you bet a red chip on the field.

In case you win, increase your bet by one more unit ($5). Do the same if you win again (increase it by one unit). That means you now you have $15 on the field. Should you lose the next bet, decrease your bet one unit (your bet is now $10).

Dont double your bet on a win though.

The strategy calls for you bet one unit up when you win and one unit down when you lose. For example, consider you now have $50 on the field and the two (or twelve) hits and you win $100. Pocket the balance and up your bet by one unit, to $55.

Your strategy calls for a win goal of $100. This means both the money in your pocket plus your money on the table. Having started out with $300 and you find you have a combination of $100 on the table plus the chips STOP.

How to make a hop bet

The hops bet, named after the legendary craps pro, Winston “the Hopper” Smith and is a little known one roll “verbal” bet that lets you win on a combination of numbers.

It’s got a payout of 15:1, so if you make this bet correctly, you can really win.

Again this is a one roll verbal bet.

So, if you have an idea that, say a 3 and 2 are coming - you bet “3+2 hopping”.

Any other combo other than 3+2 is a loss.

As the payout for a hop bet is 15:1, if you bet $5 on 3+2 hopping and it came, you win $75.

How the Craps Pros use Hopping Bets

the average player might have heard about a hops bet, but few know that you can bet on hardways hopping and get a higher payoff.

Say you believe a hardway six is coming on the next roll you can bet, for example, “$5 3&3 hop”.

Why do that? Well a hard way hops bet pays double. So instead of 15:1 (on a regular hop bet) you get 30:1 for your bet!

That means, your successful bet $5 hardway 6 hop, won you $150 (at 30:1) instead of $35 at 7:1 – or $110 more!

Don’t forget, your hardway hop bet (at 30:1) was for one roll only. The regular hardway bet (at 7:1 or 9:1) remains until it wins or loses.

Check with the dealer to see if the table pays 30:1 on hard way hops.

So with a payout of 30:1 means you can bet $5 hard way hopping on the 4,6, 8 or 10 and win $150. Were you to bet only hardway you would have won $35 (7:1) on the 4/10 or $45 (9:1) on the 6/8.

You can also use the hop bets when you notice a shooter with his own ‘signature’ roll. This is easy to spot. The signature shooter will bet big on a certain number. Let’s say the point is four and he buys the 6 or 10 for $50. Don’t buy the same number, but rather “hop” to another and win more money!

These bets will add variety and hopefully help you make some good money when you play craps.

Texas Holdem Tournaments

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Due to the widely televised showings of poker tournaments and championships, poker has gained a lot of popularity. Some of the more famous ones are the “The World Poker Tour” and “The World Series of Poker”. By watching poker on TV, people see the excitement, hype and hoopla that surround these games, and they cannot help but notice the kind of money involved in the poker tournaments. This has resulted in millions of people worldwide playing either online or at land-based casinos.

The Internet is also responsible for changing the face of tournament poker. Five years ago, one could never dream of gaining the kind of experience in the game that the Internet allows. Today, anyone can learn and practice any game over the Internet, due to the huge number of poker games being played at the annual WSOP.

Players from any age group and any walk of life, both male and female, can play at the WSOP. No longer do people who have played poker for 20 to 30 years only qualify to become champions. This is why so many younger players win championship events today.

Most of the online poker rooms offer a vast variety of online tournaments, many of them with huge amounts of money involved. For both new and professional players alike, there is a wide selection of different poker tournaments on the web. Many of the larger rooms offer their older and senior (in terms of play experience) players private tournaments in which these players can create their own tournament structure, inviting the players of their choice to join them. A great number of online poker rooms sponsor seats to top tournaments.

The excitement is just beginning in the world of poker, and one must not lose a chance to be a part of it if one so desires.
