Poker Bluffing - Ten Winning Tips

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Bluffing is the art of making other players believe you have a better hand than you really have. If used correctly bluffing can help you enhance your profits from poker and win big. Here are ten tips to help you bluff successfully.

Tip 1: Bluff when “someone” might have made a good hand. An example is when the third of a suit hits the board. “Someone” might have a flush. If you bet as if you have the flush, the other players may believe you.

Tip 2: Bluff if you are in a pot with a player that is looking for a reason to fold. By betting, big and making them think you have something they can’t match; you can remove them from the game.

Tip 3: Pay attention to other players - the more you know about your opponent’s habits the better. If a player is a novice, they may bluff too frequently making them easy prey. However, it’s the more experienced players you need to watch.

Tip 4: If players have seen you bluffing recently, they will register it. If you try to bluff again too soon then someone is likely to call you. Of course, this can be used to your advantage. If you find yourself with a good hand after being caught bluffing, odds are players will call your bets.

Tip 5: Bluff tight tables only. As a rule, bluffs have a better chance of working at tight tables rather than loose tables, unless all the “loose players” have already folded.

Tip 6: Bluff high limit tables only. In low limit games, there’s really no advantage in bluffing. When betting only small amounts, you can bet that the majority of the time someone will call your bluff. High limits, and especially no limit games, are ideal for successful bluffing.

Tip 7: Bluff from late position only. If everyone is checking, calling, or folding in front of you, it’s a good time to try to get the pot. It’s not a good idea to bluff from early position, because you have no idea of other player’s hands.

Tip 8: Don’t bluff too often, and try to adopt a pattern other players will find difficult to spot. If you bet with a pattern, they’re sure to spot it. A good bluffing strategy will keep them guessing.

Tip 9: Be careful when bluffing bad players, as they may not know when they are beaten! Even though you may present yourself as having a stronger hand, they simply may not care or not even notice, as they have not perfected a strategy of their own.

Tip 10: Some bluffing situations are ‘typical’, and you need to be able to use them to your advantage. Good players however, may spot this, note the play and use it against you. Here is a typical situation where bluffing can be effective:

You are in the late position pre-flop and after you, there are just two players left. Your cards are not indicating a good hand, but everyone before you have folded. This is an ideal time to bluff and bet big. The remaining players will probably think that you have a big hand and fold.

Bluffing Is an Essential Strategy for All Poker Players

Bluffing is not a science it’s an art. The 10 tips above however, will help you perfect a bluffing strategy that will allow you to bluff your way to bigger profits.

Winning Lottery Prizes Every Week, Without Buying Tickets

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Tom Brodie, with a successful 12 years background in sales, marketing, database development and internet marketing, partnered with Len Fitzgerald, who opened one of the first-ever video rental stores in the UK in 1984, founded the e-lottery Syndicate in April 2002.

They thought, since there isn’t a single person in the world, who wouldn’t like to win a fortune in the lottery, why not finding a way, to help as many people as possible, achieving their dreams.

They hired a university Professor of Mathematics, brainstormed how they could achieve their purpose, and ended up with a syndicate system, that boost the odds in advantage of the lottery players. People playing with their syndicate system, will have a significant advantage over the regular player who plays alone. They will have greater possibilities of winning the jackpots, and will win more prizes and money.

Their system allows people from all over the world, to play two of the richest tax free lotteries in the world, the United Kingdom National Lotto, and EuroMillions.

Each syndicate player receives a fixed set of numbers, and due to the syndicate system it’s only necessary to hit one number to receive prizes, either on UK Lotto and Euromillions. The advantage of playing in the syndicates is a massive 702% greater chance of scooping a UK National Lotto jackpot and an even better 3600% greater chance of scooping a EuroMillions jackpot! The chances of winning any prize jump to only 1 in 13, for UK Lotto, and 1 in 10, for Euromillions they applied network marketing to the system, and each member that presents the e-syndicate to five other people, will start playing for free. After that will receive commissions for each additional member, and will receive an additional set of numbers, for free, for each group of new 15 members. And here is the “trick” for winning lottery prizes every week, without buying tickets.

In Euromillions, syndicate players receive a fixed set of five numbers, and if only one of the numbers comes out in a draw, a prize is received by the syndicate. Since there are a total of fifty main numbers, from one to fifty, players, who have more than ten sets of numbers will cover the all range of numbers, and in the worst scenario, will match each draw number, from 5 different set of numbers and syndicates, and five prizes will be won.

The same principles apply to the UK National Lotto, where there are 49 main numbers, each player has a fixed set of five numbers, and matching two numbers, guarantees a prizes.

Defending your Blinds in Poker

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Some players will not let you check your bb if all other players have folded around to the dealer button or small blind. Some players often raise every time to try to steal the blinds and remain the aggressor. This strategy is especially used in short - handed games where there are only 3-5 people and the blinds come fast. The question is do you just flat call and treat it like a normal case scenario or do you 3 bet it and re-raise him and become and remain the aggressor.

A good strategy against this is to try re-raising this type of player 2 or 3 times in a row (if they are continuing to try to raise your blinds every time) and see if they stop. Typically a player like this preys on weak players who will give up 15 - 20 BB before leaving the table, so showing aggressiveness may frustrate them to get off their game or just simply leave the table. Now of course the beauty with online poker is that you could also get up and choose another table, but sometimes you want to stay at the table your at and just remove one or two particular players. In this case, giving them a case of their own medicine is a good strategy. You see, if you keep folding, or calling the bet and folding, you are giving them proper odds to keep doing it. Re-raise them with strong and medium - strong hands and against these particular players do not take their bets to be as valuable as normal or tight players.. in fact their worst nightmare is looking at someone who won’t take their crap… who won’t give up their money that easily.

Poker Money Management - Don’t Make These Two Common Mistakes!

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Here we will give you some general guidelines on poker money management and the two most common errors that players make, that increase the odds of losing dramatically.

Poker Money Management - Your Bankroll

Your ‘bankroll’ is the money you can afford to potentially lose in poker and have allocated to playing.

Poker is by its nature a volatile game and the chances that you will lose in the short term are high.

All players need to employ money management whilst playing poker, to succeed long term.

General Guides on Bankroll Size

As a general guide for how big your bankroll should be, a commonly accepted figure is for it to be at least 200 to 300 big bets at the level that you are playing at.

If you are playing $0.50/1 games, your bankroll needs to be $200.00 plus.

While the above is considered a good guide, there are other factors to take into account when calculating bankrolls that are influenced by the type of player you are and your game of choice.

Bankroll and the Type of Player You Are

If you are a tight player, then you will probably not need as much money as a player who is involved in many pots.

This really is down to individual style of play, and an aggressive player should think about having a bit extra to play with due to the fluctuations that his style of play is likely to incur.

Bank Roll and the Game You Play

Another factor when determining the size of your bankroll is the type of game you play.

If you like playing Stud or Triple Draw, you will need more money than if you are playing Draw Poker.

Some games have more betting rounds than others do, so if you are going to play in the games with more betting rounds, you need to have more money.

Poker Money Management - Common Errors

Poker money management goes out the window if you make the two common errors below - make sure you understand and avoid them if you want to preserve your bankroll!

Don’t Advance Too Quickly

This means that as soon as you have played poker for a couple of weeks at one limit and are breaking-even or are up a little bit, you advance to a higher limit with your entire bankroll.

If you play this way, you are virtually guaranteed to eventually lose all of your money.

You need to move up steadily. For example, if you start at the $0.50/1 games with $200 and steadily increase your bankroll to $400, you can then move up to playing $1/2 games.

If your bankroll decreases to 100 big bets, you should move back down again, to maximize your staying power.

Don’t Chase Losses by Moving Up!

Many players play bigger games in order to make up for their losses, but if you are losing money at your current level, then are likely lose money at a higher limit.

Poker is a game where you need to progress slowly and never chase losses.

Poker Money Management - Why are You Playing Poker?

One of the most important things to consider when determining your bankroll is the reason that you play poker.

If you have a regular job, your bankroll will be smaller than a professional poker player who effectively lives off their bankroll.

The above are general guidelines for poker money management however; the money management techniques you employ will be influenced by the factors discussed above.

Boston United were tipped as a dark horse choice to win League Two last season after the relatively high profile signings of former Premiership duo Julian Joachim and Noel Whelan. However, an inconsistent season ensued and the Pilgrims had to settle for mid table obscurity.

While former Leicester City, Aston Villa, Coventry City and Leeds United striker Joachim lived up to expectation, netting 16 league and cup goals, Whelan was more of a disappointment. After four goals in 15 league appearances, the former Leeds, Coventry and Middlesbrough striker checked into an alcohol treatment clinic before joining Scottish Premier outfit Livingston on a free transfer in March.

Manager Steve Evans has been proactive in the transfer market this summer and made eight new signings while sending the same amount of players out of the exit door. Evans has signed a number of strikers as he tries to ease the pressure off Joachim. Francis Green, Anthony Elding and Paul Tait have all been signed this summer as Evans looks for goals.

Green signed on a free transfer from Lincoln City, following a successful trial spell at York Street last season while former player Elding returns to the club following spells at Stevenage Borough and Kettering Town. Much travelled Tait arrives after a short spell at Chester City. The 31 year old began his career at Everton and has since played for Wigan Athletic, Northwich Victoria, Runcorn, Crewe Alexandra, Bristol Rovers and Rochdale.

Verdict

Boston will rely on striker Julian Joachim, now entering the veteran stage of his career, to try and propel them up the table, although another mid-table finish looks the likely result.

Cruise Gambling Basics

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Going on a cruise and gambling both are a form of enjoying the extreme luxuries of life. When joined together they can create an atmosphere of ultimate amusement. The waves in water always enhance the excitement of any journey and the atmosphere of any cruise enhances delightful experiences of touring. Added to that the enjoyment created by playing games at casino while on a journey to some port provides an experience of lifetime. People usually have ample free time while on any cruise they can do not more than watch the scenic beauties around the waters or just wait for the destination to arrive. Well, all this is fine as long as the trip is short but with the increase in time span of the journey there’s a need for some time pass. What better way than having a casino on the cruise to have an enjoyable journey.

One of the most popular games Poker was invented on the waters of Mississippi river. Boatmen while on their way towards the destination developed a card game that later became the most favorite among all other games in the casino. While governments of most countries and states have their own governing the existence of casinos on board yet most governments now legally allow having gambling centers floating on water. Well this is far from truth that only long journey luxury cruises have casinos on them also short trips of about four to five hours and a day long trip are also dedicated to casino lovers. At many times people board on ships just to enjoy the game while on water and they come back after having an experience of a pleasurable journey.

Some of the short boat trips having casinos in them also offer free service to its passengers as the revenue earned by the cruise from the gambling games makes for the cost of ferrying. This is a preferred choice for many as it solves dual purpose of traveling and enjoyment together. The desire of winning games and making lots of instant cash may not be the only motive for having casinos on cruises. Here the major motivation is of having a fun filled journey. People are not in the cruise casino to hit a jackpot but yet the money involved in the game is of considerable amount.

Apart from the gambling games in the casinos there is also variety food for the travelers. Other than the most popular games of poker and Blackjet several additional playoffs like that of slot machines and roulette are also available. One does not need very high amounts of cash when inside a cruise or riverboat casino as contradicted to while playing on land. Many travel agencies also provide a day trip of cruise with a casino as an included activity in their travel plan. Cruises in the Mississippi waters are world famous for their hospitality and excellent facilities they provide. If anyone is willing to enjoy gambling for fun or go for a cruise on vacation they can choose either of the two from the numerous options available. And the best option may well be to enjoy the best of both events by going on a cruise that has a casino in it.

Ness Notes (Jan 31)

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Tuesday’s NBA six-game card is highlighted by Detroit visiting New Jersey at 7:35 ET. The Pistons are off to the 4th-best 42-game start in NBA history at 37-5> and will take an 11-game winning streak (a league season-high) into the contest. The Nets own a eight-game home winning streak but that’s a little deceiving.

The Nets enter this contest on a four-game losing streak (0-4 ATS) and have dropped EIGHT of their last 11, since winning 10 straight games from 12/16 through 1/8. The Pistons are a league-best 17-3 on the road (13-7 ATS), while the Nets are just 12-6 (8-10 ATS) at home, despite their eight consecutive wins. Detroit is favored by six points with a total of 183 1/2.

My free play for Tuesday is in the NBA. Take the LA Lakers over the NY Knicks at 7:35 ET. Coming off an EASY WINNER with my latest 22* in CBB (Kansas 86-52!), I’m releasing not one but TWO 15* plays in CBB (off to a 67% start with CBB 15*s in ‘06!). Pay only AFTER you win!

Before getting to tonight’s college basketball games, let’s here it for MORGAN STATE! I said yesterday, Morgan State had a chance against Howard on Monday at home and those oh-so-Golden Bears won their first game of the season, 79-75. At 1-18, Morgan State now leaves Division I with no winless teams, as well as no undefeated teams. Let’s see if President Bush mentions THAT in tonight’s State of the Union!

It’s just a 10-game college basketball card but it’s a good one. The best game of the night is not on TV. No. 9 Pitt is at No. 1 U Conn. The Panthers have NEVER beaten a top-ranked team (0-12), in the school’s 100-year basketball history. However, the Panthers are the ONLY team to have beaten the Huskies at Storrs (1/22/05), in the last three years! U Conn is ranked No. 1 for the second straight week and is 5-0 this season versus top-25 opponents. The Huskies are favored by eight points with a total of 140.

ESPN starts the night off with No. 6 Illinois at Wisconsin (7:00 ET). The Illini have had some road woes as of late, shooting just 38.3 percent from the field and averaging just 55.3 PPG while losing two of their last three road games. However, Wisconsin comes in losers of three of its last four contests. Revenge is surely on the Badgers’ mind in this one, as Illinois ended Wisconsin’s 38-game home winning streak on this court last February 12. Wisconsin is 11-1 SU at home this year (actually lost to North Dakota St!) and is 69-4 at the Kohl Center under head coach Bo Ryan. The Badgers are favored by 2 1/2 points with a total of 128 1/2.

On ESPN2 at 8:00 ET, No. 8 Florida is at Ole Miss. Florida has lost two of three (both on the road) since opening 17-0, while Ole Miss (13-6) has lost three straight since a seven-game winning streak. Florida’s Brewer is nursing a bad ankle and Humphrey, the team’s best 3-point shooter, is out after injuring himself in a bicycle accident (you can’t make this up!). The Gators are favored by 5 1/2 points with a total of 139 1/2. ESPN Classic has No. 17 Georgetown at 8-10 DePaul at 8:30 ET (Hoyas are favored by 5 1/2 points with a total of 129) and ESPNU carries No. 25 Northern Iowa at Creighton (9:00 ET).

The Panthers of Northern Iowa have been to the last two NCAA tournaments but Monday entered the AP’s top-25 (at No. 25), for the first time in the school’s 106-year history (that’s LONG wait!). Creighton beat Northern Iowa 55-52 back on January 11 in Cedar Falls (I’m sure everyone knew where No. Iowa was located), the Panthers’ lone home loss this year. In the rematch, the Blue Jays are a 2 1/2-point favorite with a total of 121 1/2. That should come as no surprise, as Creighton is 11-0 at home this year and has beaten Northern Iowa NINE straight times in Omaha (again, did anyone outside of Nebraska know where Creighton was located?).

Monday’s latest top-25 rankings saw Maryland, Louisville , Wisconsin and Syracuse drop out. New entries other than Northern Iowa were No. 21 Michigan (1st top-25 ranking since the final poll of 1997-98), No. 23 Iowa (back after being ranked in the year’s first seven polls) and No. 23 LSU (the SEC’s lone unbeaten team in conference-play).

George Washington (16-1), moved up to No. 10, the school’s first top-10 ranking since January 3, 1956 when the Colonials were ranked seventh. That’s for my dad, a proud GW grad!

Ness Notes is available Monday through Friday by 1:00 ET. Saturday and Sunday, by 9:00 ET.

The Faces of Online Gambling

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Gambling has changed. With the increased popularity and accessibility of the internet, more and more people are gambling various forms. From sports betting to underground poker rooms, the general public is playing and it can be attributed largely to the internet.

The gambler is always looking for a way to gamble more easily and to do so legally. The internet provides him or her with just that. The gambling is accessible just by logging on, and since many online gambling sites are set up outside the US territory, they are actually quite legal.

The internet makes it easy to gamble in all ways. Offshore sports betting centers will allow you to see lines and odds almost as soon as they are posted at the actual sports book. In addition, a bet can be placed in any number of books while you simply sit in your chair looking at your computer screen.

The same goes for poker and other games. Casino games are available in video form online any time of day. The sites are, by and large, legal. This makes gambling in general more accessible for everyone. Long gone are the days where you met at a speakeasy to play poker and roulette.

Today, the craze is going beyond simply gambling on the internet. Now, software is downloadable to your phone so that you can see them, but also you can play the games on your phone. You can win and lose money right there on your cell phone without even leaving your car during rush hour.

Gambling is officially a mainstream sport or activity. People play at their homes, in school, at the Catholic Church, and even on cell phones. This type of exposure has made it so that gambling is the next great social activity out there.

Texas Hold’em Poker for Newbies

Friday, October 12th, 2007

If you are new to poker totally, then you will want to try your hand at Texas Hold’em Poker first. It is one of the easiest poker games to learn for beginning players, unlike seven card stud or Omaha poker. In fact, Texas Hold’em can be learned in just a few minutes. Within a few hours, you could almost be playing like a professional!

With Texas Hold’em Poker, expect the betting arrangement to fluctuate. Most of the time there are two players who will start the game off with an initial amount to kick off the game. Other times, antes are used. A regular playing card deck is used and the dealer gives each player two cards face down. These are referred to as your hole cards in Texas Hold’em Poker.

Next is a round of betting. Keep in mind that in Texas Hold’em Poker, there is also folding, raising or calling of card hands. And once the betting ends, the dealer will get rid of the top deck card to stop cheating. After that, the dealer in Texas Hold’em Poker will place three cards face up on the table. This is called a flop and the cards can be used by anyone in conjunction with their hole cards.

There is another round of betting in Texas Hold’em Poker followed by the turn card. This is when the dealer flips another card. A final betting round happens and usually bets can grow quickly. The last thing in Texas Hold’em is when the dealer turns up the last card face up. This maneuver is called the “river.” Players can use their hole cards or the five cards they already have to create a poker hand. The last round of betting ensues in Texas Hold’em Poker. Afterwards, everyone shows their card hands. The player with the best poker hand wins the jackpot!

The Online Gambling Phenomenon: It’s Booming!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Like it or loathe it, gambling has been around for thousands of years in various forms and now we’re experiencing a new phenomenon – the online gambling boom. It is expanding at the rate of a new born galaxy, with the industry turning over an estimated £13billion last year and that looks set to rise exponentially.

The main reason is that online gambling is instant and access to online casinos and betting shops is via your living room, or wherever you happen to have your computer. You don’t have to get in your car and drive to the venue, indeed you don’t even have to get dressed if you don’t want to, but those are reasons why the internet as a whole took off and not just online gambling. To find out why online gambling is so popular we need to delve deeper.

The choice for online gambling is huge. Just about whatever takes your fancy is available; poker, betting on horses, betting on sports, lottery games, instant win games, bingo and the list goes on and on… You can take part in all or any of those activities in one location. To do the same in the non-cyber world is impossible without considerable expense as you travel between specialist venues.

There is often the option of playing in ‘fun’ mode where you can play with fantasy cash provided by the vendor until you have found the right game and right site for you. This allows users the chance to get a realistic feel for the many variations on new and classic games before they start staking their own hard earned cash for a chance of winning big money.

Sites have invested heavily in technology, not only to ensure secure payments but to add to the thrill of your chosen activity. For example roulette plays on your computer exactly as it would in the casino; the same sounds, the same colours, the same experience, but it’s on the screen. Playing poker is as exciting as it would be if you were around the table staring into your opponent’s eyes, and with bingo you can join thousands of fellow players online all chasing the big jackpot.

There is no doubt that it’s the advances made in technology; expanding broadband, state-of-the-art gaming, and easy to set up secure accounts from debit and credit cards that will ensure that online gambling is here to stay.
