Casinos - Eliminate Your Enemy

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

In order for you to effectively beat the casinos you must view them as your “competition”. If you don’t view the casinos as what they are, then how do you expect to beat them?

This is why the top players have VIP Hosts at their beck and call. They get phone calls at home offering fantastic incentives to lure the player back to the casino for complimentary suites, entertainment and anything the player can imagine. It is the host’s job to come up to your table once you’re back in “their” house and encourage you to stay longer.

With all of these wonderful “comps” it is hard to look at the casinos as the “enemy” but a few hours golfing doesn’t change what they are. Online and offline, they are your opponents and you shouldn’t forget that.

The biggest challenge that you will need to overcome is the advantage held by the casinos in the games that were designed to make them richer, not you! Pick your games wisely and make sure when you go into their house you are there to win and not just socialise with the “host of the party”.

They know how to work the players to spend more money. You need to learn how to get more from your host without wagering more than you feel comfortable in doing so.

If you have a host who keeps “popping” up at your games not only to be a friendly reminder of he’s there if you need him, but also to encourage you to bet more money maybe it is time to move to a less intrusive casino.

Just remember, you are a player who is there to win. Whatever comps you accrue along the way should just be treated as gravy that garnishes your overall winnings.

Poker as an Intellectual Sport

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

It is very difficult to adjust poker to any classification since poker has strongly located on the numerous television channels declaring exclusively sports orientation. Nowadays, poker receives large distribution around its supporters so that each poker enthusiast knows the basics of the game. Can we treat poker as a real sporting event like football or baseball? Let us address the dictionary definition of the word sport:

Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

An active pastime or recreation.

From this characterization, we understand that sports should meet some basic requirements. Any kind of sports consists of physical activity, skills, rules and a competitive element. Since the aspect of physical activity conveys the basic obstacle in our question, we shall leave its discussion for the end.

Does poker encompass a clear set of rules?

Without any doubt, the concept of poker is guided by precise rules and ranging. Acceptable regulations define a true course of the game, and some actions are under an interdiction. Infringement of rules can cause terrible consequences. Public reprimand and disqualification are the unique measures of punishment applied by a sports management.

Sport is a competition of skills, and poker is a competition of skills too?

The ability to understand what is a good hand and when it is necessary to leave the game defines the creditable player. However, players can make similar decisions based on probabilities knowledge or correct strategies. The magnificent poker player is the player capable intuitively to feel a bluff, who is able to analyze and systematize tendencies of other players and the one who is capable to bluff convincingly with a hopeless combination on hands. Poker is a competition of cunning, a deceit and intuition, which, in my opinion, are the same skills, as dexterity, force and accuracy.

Can poker game be competitive?

In any display, poker bears on surface dark human emotions because when money is involved, there is no place for compassion. There will always be people, who cannot lose the game with dignity, but when they lose money, they are not capable to control themselves; therefore, strong feeling of rivalry is required very much in poker. It is necessary to forget about morals; in fact, your purpose is to win.

Is physical strength involved in poker competitions?

While poker demands certain intellectual force, its physical component equals the “Achilles’ heel”. Certainly, players should strain all muscles of a back and a back part of a body to remain sitting in a soft armchair sometimes more than 10 hours, but I doubt that any medical association will define this condition as “active”.

Can we define poker as a sport?

Proceeding from our definition of sports, poker includes many of its components. Poker is a competition with a variety of strategy and tactics, which the skilled player will use on a way to success with much greater efficiency. Poker is not competition of physical strength, and, in my opinion, this is a sufficient evidence not to consider poker as a high-grade kind of sports. It is wonderful game, which everybody can enjoy in land based casinos or poker rooms and online poker rooms as well. At the best, poker resembles the best intellectual sport I know.

Top Online Casino Payouts - How To Find The Best Odds Online

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Today there are over 2000 online casino sites. However, most of them offers games from just 5-10 top online gaming software providers: Microgaming, Playtech, Cryptologic, RealTime Gaming just to mention a few.

Casino games have different build-in odds or house edge. For example, for each $1 of bets the casino pays back $0.95 (on average), in this case the house edge is 5% and corresponding average payout is 95%. The build-in payout depend on the game: for video poker the average payout percentage is about 98% or higher, for slots 96% payout is rather high. Blackjack games pay back up to 99% and higher, while payouts for roulette games range from 94.74% (American) up to 97.37% (French roulette).

To ensure fair gaming and responsible practices trusted online casinos are monitored by independent auditors and provide monthly reports on average payout percentages for different types of games and for all games combined. These monthly reports are available on casino websites for general public.

Independent online gambling portals collect information on casino payouts and provide rankings. You can check out recent best online casino payout percentages here to find the best 25 casinos that paid the highest percentage of total wagers to their players. The average monthly payouts for “all games conbined”, poker and video poker, and slots are listed and ranked.

The list contains major Microgaming, Playtech and Cryptologic online casinos that provide reviewed payout percentages. You can see that top 2 places are occupied by Microgaming online casinos, the second pace finisher feature Cryptologic games. That’s for the total payouts. However, highest average payouts for slots are reported at Playtech casinos.

If you look at the payouts data more closely you’ll see that, despite of the same software and games with the same odds, some casinos pay more then the others, from month to month. Why? Because they offer bonuses every month and players COMP programs where for every wager players collect points redeemable for casino cash. Moreover, these casinos always offer the latest games with better odds, while others have a smaller selection of casino games.

I would not mention here the best casinos in terms of payout percentages or promotions but make sure that you check out the payouts and other important information before playing for real money.

The highest odds do not only allow you to play longer for your money but increase your chances of winnings. I’ve seen several stories when an online player lost almost the entire deposit but the last $10 allowed him to hit $30K+ progressive jackpot. Just think if the odds were a bit worth…

AFC PREVIEWS and PROJECTIONS

Eastern Division:

1) New England: The Pats will win another divisional crown by default as both the Jets and Bills are once again in rebuild mode with new head coaches, however, rebuilt Miami with HC Nick Saban who is in his second year, could give the Patriots a battle for the crown if new QB Duante Culpepper returns to form. The Patriots had five wins last year by 7 or less points including three wins by 5 or less points meaning that the loss of kicker Adam Vinatieri to the Colts could be huge. Projected record: 11-5

**Look to play AGAINST the Patriots at home in week 3 versus visiting Denver, it’s a revenge game for New England which lost 27-13 at Denver in last years playoffs and the public will surely be backing the Patriots heavily in the rematch, a check of this years schedule shows that Denver will be fully focused when they visit due to having a bye week on tap following their game at New England, meanwhile, a check of last seasons results show Denver was a perfect 3-0 ATS as a road doggie.

2) Miami: The Dolphins won their last six straight games to finish 9-7 straight up last season and posted a mark of 4-2 ATS in those final six games after starting the year with a shoddy 3-7 straight up and ATS record, needless to say HC Nick Saban’s teachings must have finally taken hold. The phins finally have a quality QB under center with the addition of Duante Culpepper to the roster which means that you can look for the Dolphins to use last years season ending run as a spring board for good things to happen this year. Projected record: 11-5

**Look to play ON the Dolphins in their season opener at Pittsburgh, Miami HC Nick Saban brought former Buffalo HC Mike Mularkey on board to run the offense this year and brought former Houston HC Dom Capers on board to run the defense this year, both Mularkey and Capers were offensive and defensive coordinators with Pittsburgh and know the Steeler schemes inside and out, watch the spread in this game because historically speaking Miami is a perfect 7-0 ATS when installed as doggies of 6 points or more.

3) NY Jets: The Jets were terrible last year having won a mere 4 games with each win coming at home, a closer look see reveals just how bad these Jets were last year as three of the Jets four wins came against non-playoff bound teams that finished the season with a combined record of 18-30 straight up! A closer look see at the Jets results from a year ago reveals that 7 of their 8 road losses were by 10 points or more and that the Jets average road game last year was a loss by a staggering 15.5 points! Needless to say Jet HC Herm Edwards is now gone and with Kansas City, enter new HC Eric Mangini who is an inexperienced first time headman who only has one year experience under his belt as a coordinator! Jet QB Chad Pennington is trying to come back from this second shoulder injury which prompted the Jets to acquire QB Patrick Ramsey from the Skins as an insurance policy. Projected record: 3-13

**Look to play AGAINST the Jets in their season opener at Tenn. Entering this early season contest the Jet players will still be trying to digest new schemes on both offense and defense while the Titans will have a huge edge with veteran HC Jeff Fisher over rookie HC Eric Mangini and historically speaking the Titans have posted a nice 3-1 straight up and ATS mark in their last four home openers.

4) Buffalo: They say variety is the spice of life, apparently the Bills believe that as they emulated the Jets by bringing in a new GM who in turn brought in a new HC, former HC Marv Levy is the new GM and former Chicago HC Dick Jauron is the new HC brought in after Buffalo’s disappointing 5-11 straight up record last year, unbelievably so, Dick Jauron becomes the Bills 5th head coach in the past 10 years! Buffalo never did figure out their QB problem last year with regard to who the main man was and will once again try to choose between J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb, to add a little spice the Bills brought in Craig Nall who was Brett Favre’s long time back up QB in Green Bay, someone better do something because these Bills lost 7 of 8 road games last season with the average loss by a eye opening 13.9 point differential!! Projected record: 3-13

** Look to play AGAINST Buffalo on October 22nd at home when New England comes to town, this contest will be the second seasonal meeting between these divisional rivals, because the game is in Buffalo the Patriots will probably be laying 4 or 5 points as the favorite as they have done each of the past two seasons when visiting, but that’s okay because a check of the ole history book reveals that New England is a mind blowing 16-2-1 ATS versus Buffalo in the second seasonal get together and the Patriots have defeated these Bills 5 of the last 6 times they visited in straight up fashion.
